Maybe it's because I don't really follow Sony that much, but I hadn't really heard of this "Jack Tretton" character until just now. Apparently he's some kind of Vice President
Anyway, I could hardly believe what I read in this article (http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/?v=news&p=5230) just now.
...and if you look at the adoption rate of the DS over the first 17 months, not only does it trail the PSP but it also trails their other platforms
Yeah, that's fair. Look at the time period where your PSP was actually successful, rather than in the long run where Nintendo is quite obviously kicking your ass.
...we think we’re expanding into a completely new audience as we did with PlayStation. And we’ll do just what we did on PlayStation; [...] we’ll ultimately appeal to that vastly Earth wide audience we carved out with the original PlayStation
Careful there. Keep saying PlayStation like that, you might have an orgasm.
You start with the core audience first and then it's much easier to reach down to a younger consumer and it's much easier to reach out to a passive gamer than it is to go the other way around.
He obviously doesn't know Nintendo's strategy.
Say whatever you want, Tretton. But Nintendo's Wii will have a 3,600,000 million unit lead on your PS3 at launch. So if you want to tout your company's outstanding achievements in the field of audience expansion (and excellence, of course), you could try building more PS3s that also won't explode in people's living rooms.
