Well, Icy can't claim this special title, now can he? It wasn't easy to do... but I sequenced Ballroom Dance (http://www.vgmusic.com/new-files/gbtg_ballroom_v1_1.mid). Turned out rather nice, except for the guitar solo in the end. But surely you can understand that would be hard to pull off ;)
Enjoy.

...oh, but I can sequence it, too. Just watch me. ;)
...someday. :p
Either way, it sounds pretty good. A couple things sound a bit odd. Namely, some of the notes in the rythm clean guitar sound a little funny (not the base note - you nailed the pattern with the C and Bb), you entirely missed the disco piano in the background (yes, there is one ;)), and something in the guitar solo doesn't quite sound right.
Other than that, I congratulate you on having the discipline to work on this and actually finish it, unlike me. And to think I started two other MIDIs a while back, too...
...but I'm just getting tired of the MIDI format these days, especially after receiving a set of 6 CDs of instrument samples. ;)

Icy... thank God you replied to this. Everybody else can't seemed to be arsed to reply and therefore, YOU'RE ALL CRAP. 20+ damn views (that's about the number of active users), you'd think one of you would have a bloody opinion... ;)
Anyway, yeah, the guitar solo was difficult... so if it sounds weird, that's on account of it being practically impossible to recreate the kind of things an electric guitar does in MIDI format.
The electric bass sounds a bit strange too. I wasn't exactly sure what instrument Kirkhope used for that part, and that was the closest I could come. I had to alter a few things in that part, again, due to MIDI limitations (and it generally sounding crappy).
All in all, though, I'm rather surprised myself that I finished it. What with the kind of equipment being used in sound studios these days, I'm glad GBA music is still "crap" ;)

Sounds great, just like the real thing. Makes me want to play again, in fact. We really must get on our mp3s soon.

*gasp* RWP Ghoulie MP3's? Yes, you must get on those ;)

I'll admit to being one of the people who wandered into this topic a few of times without replying lol. :p Mostly because I've never played the game, and I hadn't heard the original song for comparison. I just remembered that Rare has a few Ghoulies MP3's on their site, so I went there and 'lo and behold' I see "Ballroom Disco."
Anyway, great job with it. It sounds really nice. I don't really know much about MIDI composing though... I fooled around with one of those note by note program thingies once and wanted to bang my head against the desk, because I have no patience for that sort of thing. It's amazing that people can do that and get stuff to sound so much like the original music.

Yeah, I know... I listen to my first MIDI sequences and remember all those times I wanted to bang my head against the desk too... but now it's just so easy (well... as long as you get the beat right, the key is right and all the instruments are there and sounding right... )
It's fun to do though, once you've gotten the hang of it :)

Try Lead 8 (b[r]ass+lead), or whatever it's called. That's what I used, and it sounds good on my card. But that's the problem with MIDI - it sounds good on my card, but it may not sound good one someone else's. :(

Unfortunately. Which means that I'll never hear a MIDI with guitar that has heavy feedback on it. :p Or a MIDI with a pedaled/funk ("wa-ee-ow" kind of thing; hope you know what sound that onomatopoeia is trying to describe) guitar, either, but that might be possible in XG (Extended General MIDI, for those of you who aren't "in the know").

Exactly. I have an SB Live! card, and my MIDI sounds relatively decent... but most people have drivers like the Microsoft Wavetable Synth, which are completely horrible.
Luckily though, with Cakewalk I can switch between drivers and make sure my MIDI's sound good on both SB Live! and the MS Synth.
Edit: Yeah, lead 8 sounds more accurate ;)
