Welcome to the world of tomarrow! Where there is n00bs clogging the pathways of the internet and stuff costs alot more than it did way back when. Anyway this is a guide of what you may want to use to get a system.

PS3: Power, but at what cost?

Pro: Blu Ray Player
Con: Slower loading speed, expensive format

Pro: Stunning Graphics
Con: They're just graphics

Pro: Motion sensor technowledgy
Con: Having to use it when you don't like moving

Pro: Best system specs of all 3 systems
Con: But is it worth $500-$600?

Pro: 80 GB hardrive.
Con: For $600.

Nintendo Wii: Innovative and cheap.

Pro: Truly innovative control scheme to renew even the oldest forms of games
Con: You have to move

Con: It's graphics are just one step up from the Gamecube (Which still isn't bad).

Pro: Great launch release line
Con: A limited budget can make it hard to choose which games you want.

Pro: The Virtual Console will allow you to play all your favorite games of the past
Con: You have to pay for them.

Pro: Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on release date which may be the OoT killer
Con: OoT won't be considered the best Zelda of them all anymore.

Xbox 360: First out of the gate and rolling steady.

Pro: Allready has a great list of games to play and more on the way
Con: A couple has load times.

Pro: Xbox Live arcade has so many classics and new and exiting games that are great for a casual gamer.
Con: You have to pay for the full experience of the game.

Con: If you let it overheat it can freeze up. (I have yet to experience this.)

Pro: Banjo Threeie
Con: May be the last of them all.

Why do I get the feeling that you're a Nintendo fanboy?

Either way, this seems like a mostly unbaised opinion that will most likely end with a flame war... pity...

I don't like the PS3 for obvious reasons (;)), but I don't like the [Nintendo one] either due to the fact that the controller requires active movement to use and none of the games look that good to me - no, not even Mario Galaxy (doesn't seem like a Mario game to me ... it strays too far from what makes the series good, or used to), not even Smas Bros. (looks like the old one with lengthy "special move" animations taking up much of the gameplay), not even LoZ (I don't like Zelda games - yes, as a matter of fact, I HAVE tried them AND not enjoyed them). Plus when anything gets as much hype as the [slang term for reproductive organ], it lessens my interest in said item since it's all anyone can think/talk about in most of the places I go, and I like to discuss other stuff once in a while!! :-/ The 360's the only remaining new console I take any interest in, though the chances of me getting it are still zero until I see something I really, really like come out for it.

Sorry if the Nintendo one sounded a little fanboyish but it was hard to think of Cons for things that really didn't have Cons to them. If I left it black though it would be completely biased to the others. I personally am buying all 3 but if you can only get one, this is to help you decide on what one.

For anyone intrested, here's an article I wrote for an upcoming issue of the school paper.

Next-Gen Gaming

One of the most enjoyable and simplest things to do for fun in life is playing video games. For five years, nothing has put gaming on a whole new platform like the next-generation of video game systems will. One is revolutionary on the online front, the Xbox 360. Another has stunning high definition graphics that will further blur the line between the virtual and the real world, the Playstation 3. And without doubt, the most innovative of all is the Nintendo Wii, with its intuitive controls, the likes of which have never been seen before.

Xbox 360

Microsoft’s second entry into the console gaming world is the Xbox 360, successor to the Xbox. The 360 brought in the new generation of gaming in November last year. This early release gave the 360 a huge head start against Sony and Nintendo, and the sales have shown this. Xbox 360 had four of the ten top selling titles across consoles and by holiday 2006, Microsoft expects to ship in excess of 10 million Xbox 360 consoles.
Included in the $399 package, or the “Xbox 360 Premium System,” is an Xbox 360 Console, a 20 GB hard drive, a wireless controller, a headset, and a trial membership to the Xbox Live service. For only $299, you can get only the Xbox 360 and a wired controller.
The Xbox 360 features a stellar line-up of games such as NCAA Football 07, Call of Duty 2, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. To complement a collection of over 150 games, the Xbox 360 boasts the ability to download simple games to their Xbox hard drive. This feature, called the Xbox Live Arcade, allows the user to download a wide variety of games or game demos for small amounts of money, turned into “Microsoft Points.” Every Xbox Live Arcade game supports the full set of Xbox 360 features. These features include high-definition, achievements, gamerscores, custom soundtracks, and more. Most games can be played with friends over Xbox Live and you can play all of them by yourself.

Playstation 3

The Playstation 3 (PS3) is Sony’s next installment in the Playstation series of video game consoles. It will debut on November 17th, 2006 for the sizeable price of $599 for the premium design, the highest price of any video game system in this generation or currently on the market.
The "premium" version of the Playstation 3 will come with a 60 GB hard drive, wireless internet connectivity, memory card readers, and features a brighter, silver-colored logo and trim. The alternate configuration of the system will have a 20 GB internal hard drive, but will not feature wireless internet capabilities or a memory card reader. You can preorder some games on Sony’s website for $60.
In response to Microsoft's successful Xbox Live online service, Sony announced an online system to rival the 360’s. The “PlayStation Network Platform” (PNP) will feature voice/video chat, content download, and most importantly, will be completely free, unlike Xbox Live.
Possibly the most important features of the Playstation 3 are the remarkable graphical quality of the games and Blu-ray capabilities. The PS3 will launch will 21 games, all broadcasting at full high-definition quality. It will also have the ability to play high-definition DVDs, called Blu-ray discs. This feature alone caused the massive price.

Wii

Wii. Just saying it is fun in itself! The Nintendo Wii, pronounced “we,” is Nintendo’s fifth video game console, and is easily their most innovative. It will first be available in North America on November 19th, two days after the Playstation 3 will launch. It will be the lowest price next-generation console, launching at only $249. Packaged in with the Wii is the console, one controller, the “nunchuck” attachment, and “Wii Sports,” a sports compilation game.
But what separates the Wii from other gaming systems? Why, in most online gaming polls, has the Wii dominated the competition? It is one seemingly simple thing: the controller. The Wii remote, or “Wii-mote,” has received attention for being unlike the controllers for any other popular gaming console. The Wii Remote is able to sense movement and orientation. Sensors in the Wii Remote allow it to sense motion along three directions, as well as tilt.
The position of the Wii-mote allows the player to imitate actual actions, such as swinging a sword, instead of simply pushing buttons. This, coupled with the numerous attachments available and a small speaker in the controller, allows for a completely different gaming experience, unlike anything ever done in the past.
Obviously, the games on the Wii take advantage of this new approach to video games. For example, “Wii Sports: Tennis” allows a player to hit a tennis ball in the game by making the exact same motion you would on a tennis court. In the football game, Madden NFL 07, a player can hike the ball by pulling the Wii-mote back. To add to the emphasis on easy fun, online gaming is completely free.

--

This new generation of video-gaming has three separate systems, each with their own unique abilities and target audiences. The Xbox 360 is focused on the community aspect of gaming, with great graphics and a great online service. The Playstation 3 features breathtaking graphical power and backwards compatibilities. And although technically the “low-end” system, the Wii is all about ease of use and simple fun. Make your own, personal choice, but each one is worth it.

Why do I get the feeling that you're a Nintendo fanboy?
Really? It sounded pretty unbiased to me...maybe the Wii really is flawless. :D
...but I don't like the [Nintendo one]...
Still can't bring yourself to say the name? Jeez, if you just start to say it, you will get used to it. I mean, we were all skeptical at first but enough is enough, it's time to move on and face the fact that they did name it the Wii. Sorry if I seemed harsh but it just get's a little annoying sometimes when people still are doing that. :-/
...not even LoZ (I don't like Zelda games - yes, as a matter of fact, I HAVE tried them AND not enjoyed them)...
Oh and what Zelda games did you try? Just for the reference because some are worse than others so you might have gotten a wrong impression. ^_^

Wind Waker, Minish Cap and Majora's Mask are the ones that I can remember, though I think there were one or two others as well.

Woah! The only good one (in my opinion) was Wind Waker and that one wasn't the best! Are you saying you haven't tried OoT? What about A Link to the Past? I recommend you try them in that order and if you still dislike Zelda, you can kick me 32 times in the face. :)

Please forgive me for this, the most double of posts. But for those who haven't seen this video (and I'm sure most have, but it hasn't been posted yet), it's Apple's take on the whole Wii vs. PS3 war. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljZOHnZNaBc&eurl=) Oh and it could be deemed as ever so slightly NSFW. ;) But it's not any worse than when either Gold or Grey posted a cerain YTMND asking what music was playing in the background.

For the record everybody (and you need to edit that question about moving), you don't HAVE to move using the Wii. For you lazy people, there is a Wii Classic controller. With conrtol sticks and buttons and such. No extra work required. Plus you can play virtual console games. No movement required. Unless, of course you want a really really cool gaming experience of a lifetime!
