Well, i doubt it, since Nintendo doesnt makes a good Donkey Kong platformer since Donkey Kong on arcades and NES, the only good DK platformer are the ones that Rare made. And DK: KOS totally sucks.

I feel pretty much the same way ... I played Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat once (it's the most current DK Nintendo-made platformer to my knowledge) and felt like "Meh ... it's okay, but nothing noteworthy." Then I recently got DK64 and almost couldn't put down the controller (I had to because the game's at my grandparents' house :-/ ).
I've never played King of Swing, but it never really looked like that great of an idea to me. More of a gimmick to show that the L and R buttons on the GBA actualy served some purpose (they're almost never used in a lot of the games I have).

If they make it as a true 3D platformer like DK64 then it will be great . If its like the gamecube DK games then I will not buy it. In my opinion DK jungle beat and the Donky konga games Were so wrong.
Edit: I like donky kong king of swing and all the other dk games on nes ,snes , gameboy and GBA.

I think the main reason for Nintendo shunting Donkey Kong into the more abtract titles is simply because his games in the past have simply been too similar to Mario's.
I.E.
Super Mario World == Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario 64 == Donkey Kong 64 (alright this one may be stretching it a little, but you can see where i'm going with this)
Jungle Beat is still ridiculously fun (if not rather fatiguing), I'm rather partial to games where you have to hone your skills to perfection in order to reap the greater rewards and DKJB does just that, making it saturated with replay value (similar to Ikaruga).
Mario vs Donkey Kong is meant to be rather enjoyable (the sequel...not so much I hear) although I only tried it for a little while at the "Go play Games" convention two years ago and such am basing this off word of mouths + reviews.
Can't say I'm that fond of Donkey Kong 64, it wasn't exactly bad just...tedious, theere was too much to do in my opinion, the sheer volume of items that made it turn into a collect-a-thon (which plagued BT and SFA in my experience also) was just beyond a joke.

-Rareware + N64 Coins
(much obliged, GameFaqs. (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/file/donkey_kong_64_k.txt) XD)
I mean surely there must be a line drawn somewhere, Mario 64 had:
-Metal Cap
-Wing Cap
-Vanishing Cap
-Yellow Coins
-Blue Coins
-Red Coins
-Power Stars
-Boss Keys
(and I think that's...all? Anyone?)
Regardless, If you're only after classic Donkey Kong-style platforming goodness, all I can recommend is picking up the GBA ports -or even downloading the older games by means of VC, because as far as I know there hasn't been anything announced for either the DS/Wii that plays in the same vein as the 'Country series did.

It's just a Wiki-placeholder:
This article or section contains information about an unreleased computer or video game.
It is likely to contain information of a speculative nature, and the content may change dramatically as more information becomes available.
The only Wii title I could find isn't even a platformer, (http://uk.wii.ign.com/objects/752/752137.html) infact it hasn't even been mentioned sinced February.

L and R buttons never used?
well you missing out on alot of games...
and I wouln't call L and R buttons a gimmick , L and R has been there since the Snes.
EDIT:I already made a topic about this here Clicky (http://forums.rarewitchproject.com/showthread.php?t=6420)
and for you people that don't trust Wiki heres another article about it on gamespot Clicky again (http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/donkeykong/index.html)

What I mean is that the L and R buttons are never really that critical to a game from what I've experienced. They'll be usable for something, but you could probably play through the entire game just fine without ever using them. Meanwhile, they're the only usable buttons in King of Swing ... seems rather odd to me.

Well I won't go naming every single game that you need L and R , but I get your point , but tell me if you finish any metroid game on the GBA with pressing L and R , or even any Megaman Zero game...
but those are probly the games you never played so yeah...:)

Yeah, I've never played any Metroid games besides the classic NES one ... and I've never even thouched a Mega Man game before really. They do get use in some games, but not all. :) Most of what I have for GBA is Mario titles (I have Mario Advance 2 and 3, Dr. Mario, Mario Vs. DK, and some others), and very little if any L/R button usage is ever needed.

I have a lot of other games in other genres too, just not for GBA. I have lots of racing and puzzle games, and even a first-person shooter or two ... :p
My GBA collection makes up for maybe 8% of my total games, and I never was as serious about my GBA game collection as I was about my other games (I never really had as much interest in the GBA as other systems for some reason), so you can't really base a lot off it. ;)

Hakey, you are exaggerating in collecting that stuff in DK
-Camera Film
-Banana Fairies
-Green Banana Coins
-Red Banana Coins
-Blue Banana Coins
-Yellow Banana Coins
-Purple Banana Coins
-Watermelon Pieces
-Headphones
-Crystal Coconuts
-Orange-Grenades
-Coconut Ammo
-Pineapple Ammo
-Grape Ammo
-Peanut Ammo
-Feather Ammo
You dont have to collect Žem all, there are banana coins everywhere, when i finished my game, i collected everyone for every kong (perfectionist) and i had like 200+ for EVERY kong, and also crystal coconut and all the ammo, and grenades and, banana fairy was an optional sidequest, if you didnt want, you didnt collected every fairy, and nothing happened. You didnt have to collect every coin in SM64 for 100% do you? Or every power star so you can finish your game?
And my friend has donkey kong JB an donkey konga, and IMO, both suck, i also recently bought DK64, and finished it 100% (as stated above).
If this DK platformer is a good one, that doesnt proves the use of some button in Wii, or that doesnt uses the bongos (oh i HATE bongos) then I will buy it.

You dont have to collect Žem all
I never said you had to collect them all, there is still a ludicrous amount you do have to collect however, even if you decide to forego the side-quests. Everytime I've started DK64 I've "100%'d" each stage up to and including Gloomy Galleon and post that...I just lose interest, it's too monotonous for me.

Which DK platformer? There isn't one announced. o-O

Super Mario World == Every single platformer in the 16 bit era.
Fix'd
Btw, the real challenge in the DK games is to find all Bonus Rooms, while you had to find all the exits in Mario World.
It sounds a little similar in concept but plays a lot differently.
Besides they were using a Nintendo franchise, they had to mimic that "Nintendo feel" in some way.
And in my opinion, DK64 plays a lot like Banjo-Kazooie, and BK was actually build around exploring and gaining access to new areas while Mario 64 had more "linear" objectives (i.e. when you choose a mission, only the star that is related to that mission will appear in the stage, and you have a linear order to collect all the stars until the 6th one. While in DK64 and BK you have the choice of finishing the level in whatever way you want.).
[/Rare fanboy]
EDIT: MORE FANBOYISM OH NOES!
In my opinion what killed DK64 wasn't the amount of collectables, but the overwhelming amount of backtracking.
For example, why you can only pick up the red bananas while controlling Diddy? It doesn't make sense, and the game forces you to switch Kongs a dozen of times just to hit switches, open doors, break gates, etc. Stuff that any Kong should be able to do.
You don't really feel like they are using their unique abilities (like in The Lost Vikings, the first game to create a Tag system), it's just an obvious device to artificially extend the length of the game.
Most of your 80 hours of gameplay needed to collect all 251 bananas you've actually spend backtracking to the tag barrel.
There are some areas where DK64 works the way it should, though. Like in those wooden huts in Crystal Caverns. There are different rooms designed for each Kong, and you need to use a certain ability in each room. That worked pretty damn well.
If you could collect all the stuff with any Kong, the game would've been a lot shorter and a lot more fun.

Most of the time in Mario 64 you could still collect the other stars within the level even if you hadn't selected it from the menu beforehand though.
I did call it a stretch anyway :p , Banjo-Kazooie in my opinion seems to have more in common with Metroid than Mario since it's not soo much the Jiggies you need to progress deeper into the game rather it's the new moves and abilities.
I think Donkey Kong 64 perhaps shifted closer to being more a blend off the two "genres" (although it's been awhile since I've played any of them tbh).

Well, about the backtracking in levels, Rare did that with BT, and it made it better, not exhausting like in DK64, and Rare has lengthened the game artificially in past games, like in DKR, and i heard that also JFG, but never played it, i heard also KI, but i cant tell where, BT, DK64, GE (with agent, secret agent...), PD, and others. But in some games, that was good, like in BT and GE, and bad, like DK64 and DKR (going through the SAME races like, what, 6 times every race?!?!). And since i havent played mario 64, i cant tell u anything about it, and about the DK platformer game for Wii, on GFAQS, in the DK(working title) game for wii, there says genre>platformer, and also in Wikipedia i think.
