"The Playstation 3 video game machine, being released today, has fans lining up as early as last night at stores around the globe.
By mid afternoon yesterday about 12 people were waiting outside Future Shop Victoria BC Canada to be among the first in the door. The storw
opens today two hours early at 8 a.m for the latest model of the video game system, priced between $550 and $659.
London Drugs at Sanich centre also reported a handful of people waiting in line ahead of today's release.
As employee at one Victoria Wal-Mart said about eight people waiting in line yesterday, yet the store only had six units to sell.
Electronics retailers are bracing for protests from consumers unable to get a PS3 or Nintendo Wii game system for Christmas.
In the U.S eager customers were already causing trouble on Wednesday. In Palmdale, Calif., authorities shut down a Super Wal Mart after some shoppers got rowdy late Wednsday and started running around inside the store. In West Bend, Wis., a 19 year old man ran into a pole and struck his head while racing with 50 others for one of 10 spots outside a Wal Mart.
Analysts have long predicted shortages of both Sony Corp's PS3 and Nintendo Inc.'s Wii (pronounced Wee) heading into the Christmas season. The Wii, piced about $280, is expected to hit store shelves Sunday.
However, some sources said Sony will only have anout 400,000 consoles in North America at launch, with only 32,000 to 40,000 of those coming to Canada.
Nintendo expecs to have more than one million Wii's ready for Noth American consumers on Sunday.
By restricting sales heading into Christmas, Madrigal said Sony and Nintendo coi;d be opening the door for Microsoft Corp. to further increase the sales of it's Xbox 360 gaming console."
So what does this mean?
It means that Microsoft isgoing to premote, while Sony and Nintendo, are going to not make as much money, as last console.

Yeah, I've kinda felt like Nintendo and Sony aren't really trying the best strategy - they seem to be aiming more for their "hard-core" fans, which unfortunately then causes thousands of other potential buyers to be alienated and turned away, not to mention leading to actual riots by hard-core fans who can't get the thing for Christmas because supply < demand. :-/ This is very much true for Nintendo, but even more so for Sony.

Speaking of hardcore Sony fans ... (http://www.9news.com/acm_news.aspx?OSGNAME=KUSA&IKOBJECTID=f62814ab-0abe-421a-0146-94d7c412982b&TEMPLATEID=0c76dce6-ac1f-02d8-0047-c589c01ca7bf) yeah, I would've expected something like this more from a Nintendo-worshipper, considering the amount of hype around them right now.

P_L I don't think he shot him because of the PS3...

thats alot of money...

In a sick way of saying this , wich line would you rob?

I wouldn't rob either line because I want neither system. :p
But I think it could happen in either one, mainly because A.) Nintendo's hard-core fans (at least the hundreds I deal with, anyway) are far more bound to Nintendo than I know Sony fans to be, calling evereything else "t3h 5h!+" solely because it's not made by Nintendo and taking personal offense at the slightest mention of a different opinion. (NOTE: Not referring to anyone in particular when I said this.) Apparently Sony fans are like this too, but more prone to violence.

There's a girl at my school who has a Wii cap, a Wii shirt, a Wii vest, and a pair of pants with "Wii" written on them at least 5 dozen times (I can't recall a day she HASN'T worn that same pair of pants ... kinda gross to think about :-/ ) ... and she is ... there's no word to describe it besides "the ultimate Nintendo fangirl". She's declared herself "somewhat evil," as she puts it, and ... I needn't go on. It just gets worse. :-/
And she's not the ONLY Nintendo obsessionist I've ever dealt with ... they've all been like that for me. :( (At least some are less extreme than others. But not by much. At least some of the others I know of admitted [nay, declared] that they disliked the name at the beginning.)

EDIT: I think part of the reason I seem to live in "Fanboy Central" is because I'm literally less than an hour's drive from NOA headquarters, and downtown Seattle = Nintendo's biggest place for events.

That wasn't exactly what I meant , I was talking about the cold hard cash $$$
for example the PS3 line would have way more cash than the Wii line , and why would you rob someone in line for a console if there IN LINE for the console?:p

We should start Thugs of RWP.
The RWT!o-O

Well, I think the problem was that the line was limited to a certain number of people, and the guy wanted to be in the line, so he had to attack someone for a spot ...

There was also something somewhere (not sure if it's on that page or not; probably is) about someone injuring themselves when they ran into a pole while they and 140 others ran to get the first 10 spots for the PS3 at a Wal-Mart. That just goes to show you how frantic and overreactive some hard-core fans are. :p

Sony and Nintendo are just being nice, because they've outsold Microsoft, so they decided to lower their productions because of this.
Why'd they do that.
Don't Nintendo want to please their fans?

I highly doubt they lowered production to be nice to Microsoft. And I believe Microsoft outsold Nintendo.

Sony don't have a clue what they're doing (http://www.vgcats.com/comics/images/061012.jpg), Nintendo on the other have the perfect launch strategy (and at the very least, at least they have a strategy). I thought it was rather common knowledge that Nintendo was simply trying to subtly launch the Wii with enough numbers to satisfy the die-hard enthusiasts and eBay stragglers at the weekend, then start the trifecta of shipping, advertising and creating hype in the coming weeks to reel in the non-gamers.

Also Nintendo haven't hyped the Wii at all (have they ever hyped...anything....ever?), they seem to be letting word of mouth do the majority of the ground-work for them, I've seen one television spot to compete with the slew of 360 commercials that are everywhere and gargantuan PS3 billboards I've seen on my way to University.

I think the problem is that I'm still subscribed to Nintendo Power even though it's been months since I last enjoyed an issue ... and every page I see is "zOMG TEH WII IZ COMING!! BY ITZ!!1!@2" or some other article filled with praise for an upcoming title. It gets me angry and confusificated to have to see all the hype in the magazine every single month. I need to cancel my subscription ... but it runs out in February, so why bother cancelling when it can just run out? ^_^
You are right, though, outside of NP, there's little to no advertising of the thing. Hence, my hard-core fan draw-in theory.

And yes, that particular VGCats is the best description of Sony's marketing "plan" I can think of. :p

That's hilarious. ^_^

Yes, it is when examined properly. ^_^ But when the Ninty-freak in question is a close friend of one of your closest friends, and said friend of yours ditches you every other day in favor of this person ... :-/

I suppose so, but it's not every day they release a new system (GBA not with standing ba-dum-tsh), they're going to want to saturate their literature with it because as a business, at the close of the day they want your money, and they want you to buy it.

Yeah, I can see why they'd do that. I guess I'm just a bit more easily angered by seeing the exact same advertisements and comments regarding them repeatedly thrown at me every month. It'll end eventually, though, and for that I am glad. :)

Strike back with a shirt that reads "NPC".

Ooh ... that might be a good idea! o-O *Goes to locate such a shirt*

It seems Microsoft is outselling Sony and Nintendo.
The rivalry will go on for ages.
Maybe, unlike Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, being that they just recently finished their handheld consoles, can't make enough to please the fans, which is why they need money for themselves, and to make more consoles.
Man, and I thought the DS was expensive.

Uh well..I'd be rather worried if I worked for Microsoft and the 360 wasn't outselling the PS3 and Wii...what with...the 360 having a year head start.

The rivalry will go on for ages.

Hopefully, competition is vital to keeping the industry afloat and is beneficial to the consumer.

The DS/PSP have been out for two years now and I would think they'd be after money because...that's...what businesses...do.......?

Working for Microsoft wouldn't be good, if you couldn't out sell the PS3 or the Wii.
I'd be glad to outsell one.
Competion will make them more popular, what else can I say?
