View Full Version : How do you feel?

Sub brought up the fact that he was a little miffed at the fact that most of Rare's games on Xbox do not seem as good as if they'd been on Gamecube. I figured since the section of the forum is pretty much a ghost town, I'd try to get some good use into it.
What are your thoughts on Rare-to-Mircosoft purchase? Do you see it as a plus, or a minus? Do you want Nintendo to buy Rare back, or do you want Microsoft to keep Rare until they go out of business? Just tell us your thoughts.
Also, there's gotta be some rules for such a touchy topic...
1. Absoultley NO Flaming Or Blaming Microsoft.
2. NO Claiming that Microsoft "stole" Rare. ( We all know it's true, But... )
3. NO general attacking any of these major video game companies. After all, they create, distribute and provide us with these wonderful games we waste all our life on.
With that said...let the flames begin...

You will burn for that. ;)
Anyway, who says the games would be better if they were on the GCN? That isn't necessarily true. As DKC is on the GBA, does that make the game worse? No. As Mortal Kombat: Deception will not be coming to GCN, does that make the game worse? No. (It's all set to kick butt, anyway.) Would GBTG have been better on the GCN? No. I think Sub's miffed because he's one of the people who went running out to buy a GCN, thinking Rare would be putting out a bunch of top-notch games (as usual) for it, but ended up getting a major shock when Nintendo sold Rare off.
I wanted to wait for Rare's first GCN game to come out before making the decision to buy a GCN, and I'm glad I did, because two days after SFA came out, news of the sell-off surfaced. Oh, I'm so glad I waited, because now I've got a big black-and-green box instead of a little purple rectangular prism, and I get to buy Rare's games. ;)
I don't really see it as a plus or a minus - I only owned a PS2 at the time, so it didn't faze me much.
I'd like to see MS keep Rare, because I don't want to have to buy a GCN. That, and I have no room for it. :D

I've come around in the past few years. I think the buyout was a good thing. I mean, if Rare still developed for the Cube, I doubt Conker: Live & Reloaded would exist. Well, obviously the online multiplayer aspect wouldn't exist (:p), but the remake of the singer player game wouldn't either, I don't think.
And the game looks M4D, that's for sure. :D Rare on XBox is proving to be an alright thing.

I don't really care since I have all the systems anyway, but even with Rare, the Xbox seems like the one system that I could do without if I was only able have 2 of the main systems. Maybe once a really awesome Rare title comes out for it I will feel differently, but I own the least amount of games for Xbox due to a lack of the types of titles that I enjoy. Shooters, racing games, sports games etc. just don't do it for me and I've never cared for PC style games. I just haven't been impressed. It's a whole system that only caters to a single mindset. The other systems have a little more variety. I'm still waiting for Rare to make the purchase worth it. It's a good system to have on hand though.

It's a whole system that would just sit there in my house, and take up money I need for gasoline. The other systems also are $ signs, but are cheaper, thus making them better. I'm still waiting for Rare to make a good game to convince me to even consider buying the system. It's a good system to collect dust with though.

that was violent, lol, meh, i reckon that Rare on the X-box might turn out being like Rare developing for the PC, this could turn disasterous!!!

Being a nintendo fan since the age of 3 (really), I've always had a preference for that company. So, naturally, I am displeased by Rare's move. Nintendo just hasn't been making that many smart moves recently. And, I am somehow convinced that Rare would be making games alot faster if they were still with Nintendo.

Indeed I very much agree with you, although pumping out about 10 games a month isnt always good, like EA does...or THQ, although there not really a developer

Actually, Nintendo have been doing a heck of a lot better now, then when they had Rare on the N64. All the Cube games that were revealed at this year's E3 will likely provide Nintendo with a great collection of games during the holiday season, and next year. Rare was Nintendo's only good developer on the N64, hence why Rare "saved Nintendo's ass", but now... I just don't think Nintendo really needed Rare that much anymore. I still don't agree with Nintendo selling Rare... but I don't think it was an entirely bad decision. Rare probably has more freedom on the XBox anyway, so... yeah :p
Incidentally, Nintendo Revolution is becoming more and more of a reality, and if Nintendo's current streak of actually doing good continues... we might have ourselves the #1 console in 2006. Some of that depends on online connectivity... and while the Nintendo DS will be online, it's wireless and requires no monthly subscription fees. The Nintendo Revolution can't really be wireless... so I dunno. Nintendo's whole philosophy on online gaming has been, from the very beginning, to have it free (aside from the obvious ISP charges...). So hopefully they figure something out.

For the most part, I think they're still about as slow as they were with Nintendo. Except for Conker: Live & Reloaded. Cripes did they ever put that together quickly. I know 50% of it is a remake that we've already played... but still....

Rare are far too slow for my liking, I mean when was it they said that the XBox would get 5 new games in two years? And there's been one........ Right.
I'm glad the last one they made for Nintendo (Not including GBA) was SFA, I really think Rare have gone downhill since.
Give me Retro Studios and Amusement Vision instead.

Oh and correct me if I'm mistaken but I think I see Blast Corps on there:

Now let's compare that with rare's latest offering:

When the split happened, I'd say it was the biggest shock I ever got from video game news. Rare was one of my favorite companies under Nintendo... At times I even enjoyed their games more than Nintendo's. So after it happened it was a big loss to me.
After the GameCube came out, I had high hopes of whooping Grunty something good in Banjo 3. Great graphics, better sound, bigger levels.... Those were the ideas running through my head. But that one day it all stopped. As a huge Nintendo fan, I was not willing to buy an Xbox. Even though it had nothing to do with giving my pledge to Microsoft, I just felt that there wouldn't be enough games on their platform to satisfy me. I usually only buy Mario and Zelda titles otherwise, so it would be a big waist to me. If I had followed through and bought an Xbox just for Rare, it would turn out that I was right.
So far to my knowledge, only 1 game has been produced for the Xbox by Rare. In the end I only see the split as a minus on all sides. Nintendo was very foolish and lost a great developer. Although I am happy with the games on the GameCube, I sure wish Rare games were on it sometimes. Microsoft lost out too, IMO. One game in the past two years? That's inexcusable... What good is Rare if no games are present? Lastly Rare themselves lost most of all. Since the split I have not seen the quality they used to have. Most of the GBA titles I see are not really that good. Whereas the N64 Banjos and DKC Series were playable over and over, Grunty's Revenge was a one time thing for me. Overall that's how I feel.

The original single player game has been given a makeover in nearly every aspect. New engine, new graphics, new (better) voice-overs (hopefully :)), etc.
Then there's the *drool* XBox Live! multiplayerstuffs with seemingly endless levels...
*passes out*
Honestly man, read the news. :p
Besides, Conker's Bad Fur Day was a game ahead of its time. It wasn't meant to be on the N64, and with the Cube's lack of online support... it's better off on the XBox.
