View Full Version : Dream Discussion

Here's where we all get together and discuss our adventures in that wonderful place we go to when we drift off to sleep each night. No matter what savvy technicians tell you, I consider discussing dreams with my pals substantially fun, and since we all like to feel a little better about ourselves by discussing the beautiful and terrible things we undergo while in dreamland, I decided to start just such a thread here.

However, I'd like it if we'd avoid lengthy summaries of our nighttime escapades (and for you perverts out there, I'm still talking about dreams) because that can get really old really fast. Instead, let's just mention the highlights of certain dreams we've had, and why that makes them interesting, or whether or not they have an apparent meaning in our waking lives. Feel free to discuss nightmares as well, if you wish. Anyway, I think I'll begin by telling you a few of my own.

Have you ever dreamt of something so wonderful, that you still look forward to interacting with it when you first wake up, but then sink into disappointment when you realize it's all been just a dream? I felt like that just a couple of nights ago, and the object of my affection was a copy of the third Banjo-Kazooie game! Granted, that dream also contained some rather discouraging hardships and general pain, and when I woke up my first thought was "oh well, at least I've still got my excellent Banjo Threeie!" But then I realized with horror that it wasn't really so. However, the one thing I've dreamt of that nearly made me commit suicide upon realizing that it was a dream was a huge, magical, black book that talked in a suave and very sexy female voice. Inside, it was entirely blank, but everything and anything I wrote inside it would come true. The best part was that I had won it in an epic contest against lots of people I hate. I still remember the images fondly, though. :-/

I will share more later. How about you? :)

Yes, sadly. Dreaming I was back with my ex again. You have no idea how upset I was that morning when I wokE up :-/

I had one dream that was probably my funnest ever, and I'm not sure why. It was just me and a load of friends on this giant hill covered in snow. I guess it was fun because it doesn't snow much around here

I don't have dreams all that often really, and I've always been interested in dreams and what they mean, so I don't like the fact i don't have them that often :(

I once killed my entire family in a dream. They turned into vampires and I had to kill them or they would kill me.I have a weird imagination. But,on the brighter side,I had a dream where I was drinking a bottle of wine in Taiwan surrounded by vass amounts of money and rainbows...the rainbows were all made of gold.

I sometimes have these INCREDIBLY annoying dreams where *insert random thing* is chasing me and a whole mob of people in *insert random building*. The first time was a giant green blob chasing some supermarket-goers around a supermarket. It was two stories, so I ran in a whole circle for like, the whole dream. Booooooring.

And the most annoying dream I had was when I woke up and saw the alarm clock it said 3:00 AM. I thought, oh, goody, another coupla hours of sleep before school. I go to sleep, then immediatly after, my alarm clock goes off at 6:15, time for school.

Grrrr..

Hah, it's actually possible to "train" yourself to end up in lucid dreaming whenever you want, but it's a very long and sometimes difficult process. It usually involves you remembering to look at the clock at certain times and ask yourself if you're dreaming, and eventually you'd answer yes to the question because you grew so accustomed to asking yourself the question. I've tried it, but I kept forgetting. DX Lucid dreaming is amazingly fun, though! I wish I had such dreams more often.

I tend to have lots of flying dreams, which I really enjoy because those dreams are probably my favourites. That, and video game characters tend to appear in mine very often. The recurring theme with them is that my current favourite character will appear in the science class I'm taking at school; it's happened three years in a row and it's actually really funny.

I've had some sad dreams too, though; the saddest was when I met up with one of my old friends again and we were both glad to see each other (to give you an idea of how close we were, I can honestly say that had we stayed in touch longer she and I could've easily become partners in the romantic sense), but I woke up and found out that nothing had happened. :(

Dream analysis is something I enjoy doing as a hobby of sorts, and I find it very interesting.

The weirdest dream I've had was when I was about 10 years old. Not that everyone is talking about weird dreams. In my Dream I was out in my front yard with two strangers , They were about 20 years old are so . We were just talking about cars , money and everyday stuff. Then a car crashes into my dad's car out in the street , At that moment I wake up. So I didn't think much about that dream , I thought it was just a stupid dream. But 7 years later me and my 20 & 22 year old brothers were talking in the front yard. I started to get a weird feeling like this had already happened before. Then we heard Tires screeching and saw a car hit my dads car. I felt like it wasn't real, It was all happening in slow motion. It was freaking weird. I still have my journal I used to keep back then, I wrote that dream in it. I showed it to my family and everyone was freaked out. I wonder if any other of my dreams will come true.

Much easier technique, keep a peice of paper in your pocket that says, "Lucid Dreaming" On it. So whenever you put your hands in your pocket you'll remember about it and ask yourself if your dreaming or not. That way you don't have to always have a watch on hand.

Has anyone ever actually controlled the outcome of their dream? If so,what did you change?Lucid dreaming is awesome, and i'll probably try it sooner or later,I just want to know if it's possible.

Andre
3rd March 2007, 03:11 AM
It's very possible. I haven't gotten to the point that I can control when I do have lucid dreams, but I can take control of the dreams. I just tell myself that I am dreaming, and it works.

You can really have amazing experiences if you work at it.

Heh, I'd like to hear about some of the characters that appeared, and how they acted in class. If Kazooie appeared, I bet she mouthed off to the teacher didn't she?

Edit: I myself can't really remember any really fun dreams at the moment.

Oooh, once I had a dream that I was wandering the wilderness of Cyrodiil. I looked down at my compass and realized I was coming opon several Oblivion Gates.... and then my dad woke me up.

I had been playing Oblivion for, what? 8 hours? So that's easily explained....
Oh, and one time I had a dream that I was driving my dad's van and playing with fire works. That was fun, even though I can't drive.

I always had trouble with sleeping in general but now I mostly take sleeping pills to get to sleep, it was either I sleep like a baby or I can't sleep at all , but now I almost never dream that much.

Since I was little I always had a lucid dreams I never got it when my friends said something like "I wen't there but I didn't want to..." and I was "why did you go there in your dream if you wanted to do that instead...?". because for me dreaming was always that I had full control of myself but not the whole situtation.

I did have huge problems for sleep walking alot less now than before but before I would sleep walk every night , and doing these weird little task like taking out the trash , sitting at the dinner table for about 20 minutes and talking to myself , peeing in the garbage can or just starting a perfectly normal convorsation with my parents and not even remebering it the next day or I remeber one time I was dreaming that I was hitting myself and woke up and I actually hitting myself. And waking someone up while sleepwalking is kinda dangerous but once my father woke me up I so confused I look at the clock and saw the time and just started pannicking thinking I was late for school or something wich was kinda strange.

Im kinda glad I don't sleepwalk anymore but I miss hearing the funny stuff I did while sleepwalking.

Don't you hate it when you have a dream and wake up in the night and want to have that dream continued but you trie and trie but you just cant?

Also: When sleepwalking you don't have your eyes closed like most people think.

EDIT: One time at summer camp I sleepwalked and sang the whole coton eye joe song at 4 am o-O

They were mostly from Squeenix games. Sorry. o-O Kazooie wouldn't like my teachers, though!

Pinkbull: That actually sounds very effective! I'll have to give that a try sometime and see how it turns out. Thanks! :D Last time I had a lucid dream I was able to change the area into that of my hometown, and it was a flying dream on top of that! Super fun.

Wow, Andre I never expected that level of depth in you. And Mr. Patch, as much as I'm sorry to hear about that, I'd have to say that's one of the most darn funniest things I've read today other than a couple of posts on /b/.

Anyway, I'd have to bring up this dream that really gets me wondering. It's a reoccurring dream of where there's this odd door in my basement storage that looks almost exactly like the glass doors with a stained glass window on em like in the forest temple in OoT. I always go in and it's kind of dark and is furnished like a rather old room like you'd expect in the back room of an old building used for wedding afterparty places. It has a old 70's orange color and texture next to a coffee table and across from it, an old TV with a glass of flowers on it.

To the left of the couch, is a tall lamb that with a gold painted post and a book shelf on the far end of the room next to a door into a bathroom, blah blah...I can recall a lot more even smaller details but they're not really worth it.

The door is in the same place every time, and everything is always exactly the same. I've had the dream about 10 times and I think I'm about to go mad and bash in that wall with me handy dandy pick axe and finally see inside of it.

I do remeber this crazy dream I had recently it now I was Harry Potter for some reason and I was always disapointed about in the books he never uses massive spells to hit the weak spot for massive damage if you know what I mean (Well excpte for the Half blood prince he does a little more damage there) But I was Harry and bored of always trying to fling the wands out of their hands so I just started shouting random words and massive choas grew and I killed every death eater and even Voldermort but when I killed him I forgot about one little detail and well I woke before it happend.

Did you notice that you always wake up before you die?

Impossible. One time my friend dreamed he jumped off a skyscraper, and he died a horrible death. He died when he woke that day, and he told me about it that day. Wait, there is a flaw in there...

Anyways, I once had a dream when a little elf was screaming at me over and over. Strangely enough, It hurt me inside so much. I cried when I woke up. Strange how something little like that can hurt you in the ral life. Even if it dosn't exsist.

My dreams are really complicated.
I can remember parts of one.
Me and my Dad where going to the musical 'Cats' and my Dad was driving a bus there, then we got to a parking spot, and we had to walk across a kind of deserty rock place, but on a path, then we and lots of other people got to a big round stadium, and inside it was a cathedral.
I can't remember anything else than that, but that took a while, since the bus journey and the hike took a while.

Haha, sometimes, I can recall having dreams about my beloved Amanda... Dreams in which I meet her in person, or in which my mom allows me to give my phone number to her and give her a call. I can't stand waking up from dreams like that... Seeing how it's saddening to realize that never happened. I also have dreams where I meet another certain somebody in person, as well. One of my greatest friends online, actually a member on here. You know who you are. ;) Heheh.

And sometimes, I have dreams in which I feel like I'm communicating with spiritual beings... Not ghosts, per se, but rather deceased loved ones like my grandfather. I always love those dreams... I feel like I still have a way of speaking to the ones I love, even when they are no longer with me physically.

And then I have completely random dreams, negative or positive, that have no meaning whatsoever. Once, I found myself drifting on a cloud above my house, but all of a sudden, I plummet towards the ground. The minute before I hit the ground, I wake up. And then there are dreams where I'm on stage in front of a huge audience. I can feel a wave of stage fright come over me before I wake up. And those aren't the only dreams I have that would be considered completely random and possibly meaningless. But I've had so many that I'd rather not list them all.

And then the nightmares... Ugh, I can have horrendous nightmares in which I'm gravely wounded and I'm dying a slow, excruciatingly painful death. And it feels so real too! I rarely get that type of dream at all, but when I do, I can mess up my mind terribly for the whole day. And then there are dreams in which I'm being attacked by someone with some kind of large object... From picture frames to wooden planks and hammers! Changes with every dream. And although I don't get nightmares too often, when I do, it usually turns out to be like this.

I have a love/hate relationship with dreaming. Sometimes, I can't wait to get to sleep and have a righteous experience like that. But at other times, I can be afraid to fall asleep because I get the bad feeling that a really bad nightmare would spring up, you know? But hey, that's how it is... I guess no one can have their pleasant dreams without their negative ones.

Did you notice that you always wake up before you die?

I don't die in my dreams. Whever I have a falling dream, I either wake up before I hit the gruond, or hit the ground, dust myself off, and jump off another cliff. It's quite weird.

Anyways, I just remembered another one of my "weird" dreams. I was in the Swan Station on the show "Lost", when a lockdown occured and I was locked in the room with like, a 105 year old orangutan. And he spoke to me while we were going through the Lockdown procedure, telling me what the whole blast door map means, and basically all the mysteries of the Island. The Lockdown then ended, I pressed the button, and my dream ended.

Needless to say, none of the orangutan's prophecies came true. I'm still confused as hell. Not to mentiopn I had sort of a "Lost marathon" before I went to bed, trying to catch up before season 3.

Cause that way I don't get Llst, then again, I don't get Lost anyway. I get lost in the entire thing of getting Lost.

Jeez, that must sound really complicated.

Once, after playing Pokemon colloseum for about 6 1/2 hours straight,I had a REALY weird dream.I was in Latios and Latias's house, and it was a giant floating temple. It waas beautiful outside, with wild flowers blowing in the breeze (I could write stories with this...).Every year, the two would bring some sort of double-ended flower out of the ground. It had petals all over, folded up,like a flower without a stem, and the top on the bottom aswell. They would rub against it,and hat kept them alive,or something. Then,my dad decides to jump on Latios (Dunno HOW he got to the island) and race me.I jumped in some sort of plane,we flew very fast, and then my dad woke me.Weird.

Also,I had a recurring dream, where a strange man dressed in black and brown would steal children and put them through grinders, drinking what came out.Absolutly horrible, but I didn't know any of them.

I hate how my dreams are always third person. It's annoying. That is, if I can remember my dreams. I don't remember my dream last night either... annoying.

I've had several dreams where I'm just in a white room with no doors or windows and I either have some sort of power or I'm someone else, real or fictional (Like one time I was Link). Those dreams are pretty cool.

I really couldn't tell you anymore dreams though, mainly because I've told you all the dreams I know are real. I've made up so many dreams, I don't even know what dreams are real or made up.

I do know that I've had a continuation dream... It was extremely pointless though: I was with Paul Bunion, and we were walking up a hill. We got to the top of the hill, and we saw a village. I woke up. The next night (or a couple nights later, I'm not sure) I dreamed that I was at the top of that hill and I walked down to the village. There was a windmill in the village. I approached it from the back, and there was a ladder I could climb (This is actually one of my few first person dreams). I got half-way up the ladder and woke up. A night or two later, I dreamed that I finished climbing up the ladder, got to the top of the windmill, and did a sort of Titanic "I'm on top of the world!" sort of gesture and woke up.

Very interesting.

I had a continuation nightmare where I was being attacked by porcelain objects, because the room where i used to take naps in when i was like 5 had these freaky looking masks in them. Yah so they would fly off the wall and try to kill me. Also i kept having dreams where i would roll off my bed and something would pull me under it. I hardly have nightmares anymore but that is the most recurring one.

The oldest dream I remember having was weird. ET's face appeared everywhere, and he was evil. Then I was hiding in a trash can for the rest of the dream. But that part was in third-person. This dream happened an unbelievably long time ago. It's scary that I vividly remember the whole dream. But since I don't dream a lot, it's easy for me to remember the ones I have. In fact, I went most of my life without dreaming after awhile. But I've had a number of dreams the past few months.

I'm going to tell you one of my favorite dreams ever, and don't laugh at me because it's so sappy. Anyway, as it turns out I'm at my high school in the company of a certain cartoon character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aelita_%28Code_Lyoko%29) whose adventures I had begun to take an interest in a few months before. But the school I was in wasn't really the school I go to, (although it was 'my' school) it was some evil grimly place with long chrome halls that looked like the mother of all mental institutions. Both of us were trying to cut class because the teacher we had to go to had decided to send all students who failed that day's test to some place like prison or an asylum. (not that my animated friend would have been at any risk, because she is a gifted student in the show) Most of the dream consisted of us talking as we avoided anyone's attention, and we were even holding hands. It was nice in a suspenseful and bizarre sort of way.

Now, I shall tell you the worst nightmare I have ever had, which was when I was about eleven years old. I dreamt that my mother and I were driving along a long country road at night (you know it's gotta be good, right?) and suddenly stop at a video store in the middle of nowhere. Anyway, we go in and there's this really bizarre man behind the counter that looks very pale and as though he were dead, but we didn't pay any attention to him. It got really scary when old ma suddenly disappeared, and I found myself stalked by a horrible monster (of the enormous eight-foot behemoth type, with long twisted horns, covered in hair, and with about eight eyes in his orangutan-like face) that had gotten out of a horror movie I had been checking out. Everyone disappeared except for me and the monster, the exit doors were locked, and I was so freaked out when I woke up that I was convinced for a few minutes that daybreak would never come! I know it seems cheesy now, but it was a real fright when it seemed to really have been happening.

I'll post more later. I tend to remember my dreams. So, what do you think of those? ^_^

Shorthand topic summary: You all have insane psychological disorders. Especially you, Duker.

I don't tend to have nightmares - I did have a vivid one lately, and although I've since forgotten all the details, I remember remembering it with clarity. Ho-hum. But it's a less than annual event, anyway.

My dreams are just odd. Quite a good one that I remember had me in a kind of labyrinthine, old-fashioned book shop with its employees all sprawled in the aisles or doing exercises and generally getting in the way. When I asked if they could let me past, they just said, "Oh, so it's your book shop now, is it?" or something of the sort.

It actually went on for a lot longer than that, but that's the best bit.

lol i have night time epilepsy disorder =-/

that means that sumtimes i do things that my brain tells me are there but are not really there.
for example 2 months ago in my dream i was franticly trying to pick up this book (which wasnt there). i woke up with a torn sheet around me .. and a month later I tried to climb out my window (which is like the same size of a lunchbox). o-O

also sumtimes i go into a panic and start runing round the lounge screaming my head off.. thats when i wake up say b***** and go back to bed.

but the worst 1 is my main fear.. SPIDERS. i sumtimes dream theres this hench spider on my wall... and because its my fear my natural reaction is to jump out the bed run into to hall way... but now i can control it, i sit up and look at the wall and touch the 'imagenairy' spider and i wake up.

so yeah, i hate night time epilepsy dissorder..

See, in one of my dreams that I had a few days ago, I kept on falling and dying. It got kind of annoying after awhile. First I fell down and there was blood everywhere and guts flew onto a store window. (I believe I was somewhere in Manhattan.) After that, I was in a Tomb Raider level and I fell on spikes. Then I fell in lava. Then somehow I was in my living room, trying to set up the Wii I just bought. When I opened the box a bee came out and chased me. It eventually stung me in the hand 3 times. When I woke up, I realized my hand had fallen asleep.

Odd. But, about the whole predictions thing that was mentioned earlier.........I don't really think that dreams can predict the future. I think that our brain "gets bored", and sometimes gets a little out of control when we sleep, and thus, a dream is born.

I just remembered a weird dream I had once. I was taking a shower, and then the shower head started moving by itself, kinda like in It. Then, later in the dream, I was in my room, and the shower head came in the door, and sprayed me. Then I woke up.

Wrong. When you dream and reamember it, you are actually thinking whilst sleeping, so your brain is awake and active. It really is just playing recent thoughts back at you, and as your brain, not body, is awaka, you can reamember them.

Sometimes I get dreams where i'm playing a game, or watching TV, and then I turn the TV and game off.
But they don't turn off, they stay on, I even unplug them, they stay on. Then the TV gets a face on it, like a

Kind of face, but creepier.

It's oddly scary.

I've had dreams exactly like that. Except instead of the face, Grunty came on the screen and said she took over my Gameboy. And then I just threw it on the ground as hard as I could and it broke. Problem solved.

For some reason, roughly once a week I am chased about in my dreams by a dinosaur, and almost always a T-Rex. It's probably symbolic of something in 'dream analysis' jargon, doom or fear or something, although fear of what I haven't yet been able to figure out. ;)

The last one involved me and a friend being chased around the outer wall of this circular building by a T-Rex - just running around and around. We were running faster than the T-Rex and it couldn't see us around the corner, so we got the idea to stop running around the wall and dive behind a bench, thinking the dino would run past us, so we did so, and the Rex chose that moment it ran past our bench to stop and have a look about. Fudgecakes! So I got up and ran (I dunno what happened to my friend :D ) like a crazy person until I met this Indian dude wearing a suit next to a tall tower. He congratulated me for shaking off the Rex and asked me if I wanted to use his elevator, because it was traditional for those who beat the T-Rex to go to the top of the tower and celebrate. So I got on his lift and went to the top of the tower, which was about a hundred feet tall and, when I got there, only about ten feet square on the top. I stepped off and the elevator went down again instantly and I was stuck up there. "Wow, this is loads of fun" I thought.

So, yeah. I'm officially crackers. :D God knows what I did to hack off these prehistoric pests!

I know this is a bump, but the night before last I had an absolutely remarkable dream. I was in my early to mid-twenties and wanted to take a job at a big corporate tower, which, surprisingly enough, was a strange alternate version of my former middle school. I went there, took the elevator to one of the highest floors where I would be staying for a while (don't ask me why, this is all rather strange) and walked down the hall. However, on my way to the room, an odd open door got my attention. I peeked inside, and saw a bizarre bedroom that had an orange haze floating all around it, and everything there was themed with colors of brown and purple. Suddenly, a kangaroo stuck his head out from under the covers on the bed, got really freaked out, and jumped out at me, kicking me out of the entrance! He kept leaping all the way down the hall, and right before he got to the elevator, he turned around and said, in a perfectly normal human voice, "peace is subjective, mate" before entering the elevator and disappearing from view.

Guess how I reacted? I moved to the other side of the hall and knocked on a door to inform someone of what had just happened. After a voice told me to come in, I opened the door and saw a room identical to my aunt's apartment. Conker was sitting on the bed, watching television with a rifle in his hands. "So he got away again, did he? No need to rush me, I'm already there!" he said when he looked at me, then loaded his rifle and ran out the door. I don't remember anything else, but isn't that just absolutely bizarre? I hope some modern-day Freud or Jung can help me learn its meaning! :D

My dreams are strange, sometimes I randomly wake up, then fall asleep, and my dream continues. One time I dreamed that I was on this fixed path, but the world was 3D so I just flipped into the 3rd dimension and cut across to a different part of the path, my dreams are obviously trying to say I've been playing too much Super Paper Mario.
