View Full Version : Wind Waker

Wind Waker came out after the UBB died... so none of us actually got to talk about it.

So who here got it? WW is the first Zelda game I've played through. I have OoT, but I never completed it. To be honest, I never developed an interest in it. But WW was... for lack of better word... awesome. One thing that I never expected what the amount of humor that's in the game, too. I thought that was a nice touch ;)

My only problem with it is that it was too short for my liking. Cripes, I wanted it to last forever ;) The camera system was perfect, the story was suspenseful, blah blah blah, the interaction, so on and so forth.

It was the first game since Metroid Prime that I actually played non-stop.

Also, who pre-ordered the game and got the demo disc? I was really worried about that because I pre-ordered it off IGN, and things went terribly wrong. It seems the buggers aren't familiar with post office boxes, so my address confused the stupid arses and got stuck, fortunately, in a city that's an hour away from where I live. But my God, you'd think UPS would know how to deliver a bloody parcel...

I preordered the disc. Straight from Circut city in person, and I picked it up in person too. All went well. Love the game. Spent two months trying to fully beat it and enjoyed every bit o it. Lovely game it is...

Well... I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would. I mean, I wasn't upset about that stupid Cel-shaded thing. Infact I loved the new style, worked perfectly for the game. The music was awesome, my fave has to be Dragonroost(Seems to be the most catchy tune in the game. ). Though the boss battles were easy enough to do with one hand tied behind my back, they were still FUN to do, which is what all games should be about. (I don't mean to say that it is good that they were easy. But for some odd reason it was fun to beat the crap outta the bosses while just messing around dodging thier every attack.:D )

The enemies in the game were sometimes stupid, or smart. Either way it was fun to mess around with them. (Ever watch a Goblin come after you when you are on a platform at see, and the just dodge outta the way and watch it jump off? It is funny to see them drown like that. Or what about putting the Picto-Box in one of the hotbuttons, and then putting the bombs in another. Shoot one bomb on top and take a snap shot of the goblin falling down towards you. Though it is hard to do, it is still freakin' funny.:) ) And to also add on the fact that you can pick up there weps to solve some of the puzzles(Or just whoops some major @$$) was a nice add.. a VERY nice add. :D

Not to mention the last battle... best battle in the game. That is the main reason why I started the game over again. (Though the fact that you can do the 'second adventure' using his original outset island outfit throughout the whole game was another good reason for me to start over...) But yeah... that battle was the coolest in the game. :)

Also, I did pre-order the game and got the bonus-disc. I played it all the way up to the end of the spirit temple and quit. Why? Because I hate twinrova. And also because I began to get bored with it... But I enjoyed the new challenges it provided. Some of the stupid puzzles left me hangin' for 5-20 minutes sometimes.>_<

Overall, Zelda windwaker rocked. Sure... there were some minor problems like the sailing. Not that they were to big of a deal, I just didn't like traveling for 5 minutes to get from one island to the next. But.. yeah. Heheh...

The day that the bonus discs arrived in store, I picked one up. Then I played it.
The day the Wind Waker arrived in store, I picked it up. I always get the games the first day they arrive in store.

WW...good game, though I lost interest in it real quick. But good game, innit?

well, I picked up my preorder disc at walmart, where all you had to do was give them the ten dollars, and you keep the receipt and bring it back when you want to buy wind waker. i almost considered not buying wind waker, but i did. (on the last day i could. the thing had a time limit, imagine that.). for me, it was all about OoT. I dont know why no one else here seems to like it, but, I personally liked it better than wind waker. dont get me wrong, wind waker was an awesome game, it just seemed that OoT was better.

I stand by my statement that cell shading is awful, and it ruined the game for me. Although I admit the sword fighting is well done.

And if PD is cell shaded I'll be extraordinarily annoyed.

finally! someone who agrees with me on cell shading being a bad idea! i far prefer the OoT graphics. and, I may be out of the loop, but what is this PD?

I thought the graphic style for Ocarina were much better. Wind Waker sounds like it has good gameplay, but I would prefer a game that's going to last me a long time like Ocarina.

Can you beat that infamous, annoying, win-by-one-second, running man in Master Quest?

robotjinjo
31st July 2003, 04:50 PM
NOPE. THAT'S FOR SURE.
Actually, i've never played him, and if I have, i've forgotten, so I don't know if he's easy or hard.

banjordan

If you race him as an adult in Ocarina, he always wins by one second even if you straight up won.
The developers said they forgot to program in the winning sequence or something like that.

Something that was released in Japan only for the N64. I'm not getting into detail.

I thought Wind Waker was awesome. I love the scenery, the music, and the graphics. Everything just seemed to fit. I didn't like, however, how incredibly short the game was compared to the other Zelda games. That ticked me off. At first I thought Wind Waker was better than Ocarina, but after playing Master Quest once again, I decided that Ocarin was better meerly because of the length of the game! The longer version of Wind Waker was cancelled because it was considered "Too Long." But I'd rather have it too long than too short. Then again, when Nintendo's targer audiance is 4th graders, you should expect short, easy games.

I loved Wind Waker but there was one little thing that annoyed me... having to use co-operation with another character in two of the major dungeons... I hate that... I even hated using co op in OoT with Ruto... its just really annoying...

I haven't played WW for a little (cause school has been really busy) but i like it. I think OoT was better because it was more difficult and the graphics but WW is definetley an awsome game. Luckily I didn't have to pre-order the game to get th bonus disc. Here in Australia (don't know about other countries) you walked in the store bought WW and they gave you OoT if there was enough left. Fortunatley for me I got it the first day it came out.

BTW i read somewhere (may have been IGN not sure) the the 64DD was released in the U.S but not widely available (Very VERY rare). But the never released Master Quest in the U.S I know that for sure.

Sub - Cellshading is awful? Yeah right! Dude it was like a freekin comic book.... Wind Wakers graphic are what made it one of my favorite games. If every game could be like that.... id want it.... besides maybe shooters.

I don't want to see a comic book, I want good "realistic" graphics. I really dislike cell shading. Banjo better not be cell shaded. And PD is, that's just awful.

I never got Wind Waker, but I played it a little bit. I didn't like it. I never liked Zelda. I'm one of the 0.0001% of the gaming world that thinks the Zelda series sucks. I mean my favorite was the SNES one and even that got monotonuos. I don't understand what everyone sees in those games.

OoT is the best! Really? I'd hate to replay the worst. OoT managed to bore me silly...

And I can't stand the counter in Majora's Mask. I thrive off doing useless insignifficent things in games that have no value what so ever but are somewhat entertaining. With that lame timer, you can't take that time out everywhere.

The cel-shading thing is fine with me. But this whole topic could bring up another one: Do graphics make a game good or bad?

Grey Jinjo
2nd August 2003, 05:37 PM
It depends. if you mean 2D and 3D, no. Sometimes though...graphics are just meh. Especially old Playstation games.

Some old PS games are too..blocky...and hacked apart. I would rather play a 2D SNES game, than that 3D piece of crap. At least 2D looks neat.

There are a bunch of different kinds of gamers. Some gamers only play a game for the story and graphics. I play a game for the gameplay, not the story or the graphics. On the other hand, if something is just a giant mess of graphical interfaces I'm not going to play it...

I've only found instances like that in old PS/Saturn games though. For instance I don't know any 2D games...heck even any Atari games where the graphics ruin it for me. I think they just sucked at developing a couple 3D sprites though...

Professor X
3rd August 2003, 01:21 AM
Right.....Well, on a more....errr....professional note. Yes, that's the right word. I think graphics dont' matter squat as long as the game is good. But more important than graphics is the controlls. If the controlls stink, then the game really stinks.

Mumbo BT
3rd August 2003, 04:57 PM
I thought the game was all-in-all good, but I was just disappointed about the dungeons. They seemed too easy(Probably because I picked up most of the puzzles from OoT and Majora). But it seemed there was more fighting involved rather than puzzles(Outset Island's treasure map was the least favorite part for me). I thought the best temples was the first dungeon on Dragon Roost island and the Earth Temple.

But I did enjoy the game lots until I had to get the triforce maps(still didn't get the triforce yet... )

And I guess I'll leave it to that, since I basically compared it to the 64 zelda games too much already.

Yeah it's the same here too, except stores here are nowhere near in trouble of running out of of Bonus disk packs. I mean it does say limited edition right? But I haven't seen a single Wind Waker copy being sold without the bonus disk yet, and there are still loads of them around....interesting...

Oh and I can't even use the bonus disk because my bloody T.V doesn't support 60hz! :(

Well, what can I say?

I liked the Cel Shading, I think, in various parts, the game looked realistic, it did to me anyway. Don't ask how, it just did!

I liked the weapons, and the sailing, I thought was intresting, and not boring.

I liked the boss battle, especially the one in the sand fighting against the sand worm thing...Well, I liked the music to that boss.

There was plenty of things to collect, those charts and everything, which is what I liked! Lots of collecting. I love collecting them figurines, so fun! Oh, and throwing baits at the pigs to get rupees! Cool idea.

I liked the Tower of the Gods, and the storyline I think was actually good!!

100 Years have passed, should't another male Gerudo be now born? Unless all the Gerudos died along with Hyrule.

I am guessing that the Master Sword will need to be taken from Ganondorf's head, reviving him. Maybe not.

Does anyone know why they call Ganondorf "Ganon" in this game, when he is in his Ganondorf form?

Ohh and I got my bonus disc! yep yep.

Ocarina is one of my favorite games and I don't think anything can replace it. Hearing how short WW was, that's one major reason why I'm not going to get it.
I think they should release the full version of WW without anything cut out.

Are you able to buy the bonus disk off of Ebay or something by itself?

Benjo Koolzooie

Yeah the game was kinda short. I still think its a great game. but..lacked that Ocarina of Time special feeling..ah well.

I got it, and I am almost exactly like you in your story. I was never really a Zelda fan, and I do have Ocarina of Time but never cared enough to finish it. The Wind Waker however IMO, is the best GameCube game out there right now. The music is one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, and the story really had an interesting twist. Not to mention the ending was great! All in all, I definately enjoyed this game.

Its not too short, but I wish it could have been longer as well. There's a WW sequel coming up later in 2004 or 2005 I hear, so I think when it comes out we'll be satisfied. :D
