View Full Version : could it happen again?

at last, the registration thing worked!

anyway, i'm sure you've all heard about the video game industry crash that took place in the 70's and/or 80's. what is that happened again? would nintendo have to come out and save it, or would some new company take over? i doubt this will not happen for quite some time, but, eventually, video games will reach their highes achievable quality, companies will run out of original game ideas, new consoles will be worthless, and we can say bye-bye to video games. (that's a scary thought!)

...or maybe it's the chocolate pudding talking. not sure...

Thanks, you just added another worry into my life.

True, that could happen.

People would start turning back to computer games, I like consoles too, but for slightly complicated reasons, it woudn't happen to computer games at as likely.

Luckily I don't have to worry about that as much, I don't just play games alone, I enjoy making my game stuff more. I right now am using Blender for a small game project. Once I get through the C++, I can make my own games totally from scratch.

Here's something to think about, the only thing all games basically are are software programs, programmed to make graphics move on the screen.
Weird.

But it's not an animation, 'cause you move them yourselves. That is the key word.

When the graphics can go no further, video games will die. At the rate new companies bring out new things, I'm guessing we have about 6-10 years before the video game world dies.

Alas, you are wrong. Ever heard of Virtual Reality? And graphics aren't everything in the the gaming world. Fun can rise forever.

Graphics that move on the screen interactively, I forgot that.

When the graphics reach their peak, games will start becoming bigger and longer.

You all have to remember technology is changing all the time, by the year 2005, there could be something out that is a major breakthrough that is nothing like we've ever seen. It could be something totally new that makes the Xbox2 and PS3 look like a couple of dumb clunky boxes.
There are lots of ideas that companies play with but never use.

I started working on my post before robotjinjo did his, but he's right, that's exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. Not particular Virtual Reality but the same idea.
And he's definately right, fun can rise forever.

It would be real cool if full games were like "Hey you, pikachu!" and there was a little mike and depending on what you said they would respond. I would love talking to Kazooie over and over again until he started pecking me :D

Hey you, Pikachu! Didn't turn out that well, but was an original idea.

The game was just not right for the technology of our time. Once the voice command thing becomes more advanced with computers, it will become something video games use too.

robotjinjo

I still want Kazooie to peck me.

That would be cool once technolegy gets better. It would be like this...

You: Hey Kazooie, wazzup?
Kazooie: Workin' on new Kool-aid Jammers!

lol:D

Virtual Reality isnt going to happen. And even if it did, you must be a moron to do use a virtual reality machine. Virtual Reality machines are machines that send electricity through your brain to project images. And studies say that cell phones are bad... Virtual reality machines would give you serizures. As for the gaming industry ending.... yeah It doesnt have much left. As Ive said before.... MMORPG are the future.

It doesn't have to be Virtual Reality, but something new that would change the industry forever.

Technology changes all the time, there will come something (not Virtual Reality) that will change things and break free from the same old boring stuff we're playing now.

Maybe 50 years from now, somebody might perfect Virtual Reality so it doesn't cause problems. You never know.
Long ago, they didn't think the public could handle personal computers or that computers could hold more memory than a couple of mega bytes.

Yeah.... but perfecting virtual reality requires beta testing.... whos going to bne willing to put there heads in a thing before anyone else has ever done it.....

Maybe virtual reality won't happen, but there are other forms of technology that haven't even been thought of yet.

I thought it died because the Pokemon craze was dying off at the time :D

As for VR, its possible. But I still see that as years away for actual practical uses....

oh, i think a few new sega genesis or NES games wouldn't hurt. :D anyway, if games reached their peak quality, nostalgic people like me would just play old ones. nintendo could re-sell some of those! :) remember, "super mario bros. 3" is still the worlds best-selling game cartridge.

either that, or people would play board games more. ("monopoly" comes to mind.)

perhaps arcades would still survive, at least a little while longer, since they are all interactive, and all that.

I love those old kind of games, play them on emulators all the time. The nice thing about emulators is that you can use save states to save anywhere instead of using their crappy save system or not saving at all.

Well then, going by that Nintendo obviously wanted to get rid of their loyal NTSC fanbase..

I think there will be a console and you can plug some glasses into it and the glasses are a type of TV that you can look around. That's the type of VR i think will come soon

Yeah.... but perfecting virtual reality requires beta testing.... whos going to bne willing to put there heads in a thing before anyone else has ever done it.....

I'll do it

Who says that'll be the method... have you seen the future? They could have perfected an entirely different way of projecting VR by the time it's public. Take a look at the technology behing the NES--way before its time, people would have scoffed at you for dreaming up such impossible rubbish ;)

Aw man, don't even remind me of that piece of trash. That had to have been the crappiest system ever produced by a major company.

I think VR will be just goggles and VR gloves....like in the timeless classic, "The Lawnmower Man".

rent it!

It already is public, my dad told me, but he might be wrong. It costs like 5-10$ for one play.

I beg to differ. according to the Gimnusse(however you spell it) Book of World Records, Pokemon Yellow Version is in fact, the worlds bestselling game. It sold 1,000,000 copies one it's first day and eventually became a billion-seller. Pretty hard to top really.:p

Oh my yes I agree with that... some of those games were just wonderful... we need more side scrollers...

Amd as for the gaming industry collapsing... I hope it doesn't... I have just applied for a 'Games Wizards' francise... (It's sorta like EB and stuff like that)

I would like it if they went to 1996 in the gaming industry, then STOPPED. A few N64 cool 3D games, but still had the wonderful SNES world! I mean, I like DKC3 better than Super Mario Sunshine.

Video games won't die. To be honest, I wouldn't care if there was never a new system as long as there were new games. Heck, less new systems just leave more money for the games (since I wouldn't have to purchase the new consoles). As long as nothing new comes along, video games won't become outdated.

People still make pots....There has been no new pot (...the clay object) technology that I know of.

If you are successful You'll have to tell me where you set up shop. I'd come and buy something from you A.S.A.P (as long it was in Victoria).
