That was actually the only change to the movie that I liked. It served a few purposes:

a) It showed the strategic prowess of the Fire Nation. They didn't have their element around them at all times and they STILL managed to pretty much take over the world.

b) It showed how bad ass Iroh was. Because of his mastery of his chi, he was able to create fire from his own life energy. That's why all the other benders freaked out at the end.

c) It was a good vehicle to show the pure martial arts/mechanical mastery the Fire Nation had. Because they couldn't bend at all times, they came up with other ways to meet their needs. If you were to turn off a water, earth, or air bender's powers, they'd be at a much larger disadvantage than a fire bender would. That makes them even more powerful IMO.

Of course, it would be cool if Shyamalan knew how to make movies anymore.

They never actually touched on whether Appa was the last of his kind, so it is a bit easier to expand on that and update the Sky Bison and Lemurs. And also Aang found Momo after he was unfrozen so he wasn't exactly extinct.

That being said, Tenzin is the only air bending master left but Katara and Aang had 3 kids so maybe they are water benders or just simply non-benders?

Yes, Katara and Aang had three kids; one a waterbender, one an airbender (Tenzin), and one a non-bender. I think Tenzin and his wife also had three kids, two airbenders and one non-bender. I'll have to get this cool diagram Carth found to show you.

Oh, and Lin Bei Fong's father is "unknown". Yes.

I think the only reason I never got into Avatar (It looks cool and all but..) was becuase it's by nick.

I dislike new Nick.

Avatar is absolutely NOTHING like other Nick shows. It's epic, has a great story, and actually treats the audience like they have intelligence.
