Do you care about what other people think of you?

To some extent everyone has to care about what other people think of them. We're social creatures, it's how we are. You have to be aware when you say you don't care what others think. You're telling me there's no instance where you've adjusted your appearance or behavior for other people? Are you willing to share everything about yourself with another person? Trick question. No matter what your answer is to the latter question, it leads to you caring about what someone else thinks of you.

Now does this mean we're always dressing to impress when we go outside? No. Or at least I'm sure lots of people here like to think they're just representing themselves and their tastes accurately by wearing an Adventure Time shirt because they like Adventure Time, but are you really being honest with yourself if you say that you have no desire for your personality to be accepted? To some extent, that is still caring what others think (but that's just another way of looking at it. You could just be the kinda guy who dresses for function only). No matter which direction you go, if you're an active member of society you must care. You must place some stake in the opinion of others. That's exactly how we socialize.

Side-note: The worst kind of narccicism though, is when someone is acutely aware of how little they give a shit about what others think, yet hope that apathy shows and others respect them for it. That's 1000 times worse than the guy who has to have his hair and his shoes and his shirt just so, in my opinion.

Does anyone understand me or is this just white noise. I have this strange fear of being terribly inarticulate (i.e. caring what others think).

I would be lying if I said I didn't care what people thought of me, but I'm pretty good at brushing off negative things. It just depends who it is and what they think. If it is someone I am close with, their thoughts can matter quite a bit.

As for my social standing, I am content. I've always been a loner, so I am happy being alone most of the time. But I do enjoy the company of others. More friends couldn't hurt.

Only a little. It'd be hard not to care a little, especially with people who I care about. But, if a person has a problem with the way I am, I leave them out of my life, simple as that (:

Social relations have... room for improvement, for me. I'm really looking for friends in people who challenge me artistically or intellectually, who live intensely and aren't daunted by living an intense lifestyle, the kind of person who could engage in it with me. Maybe. But people who don't like or accept you will probably be ruder around you in general. By pushing those kinds of people out, you're controlling how pleasant overall interactions with people will be about anything. It doesn't really say whether or not you would be specifically bothered if they held a negative opinion about you. Had you considered that?

I happily danced in front of a whole restaurant of people doing the Cha Cha Slide. Some older ladies eventually joined me. I was as hammy as possible ("EVERYBODY CLAP YOUR HANDS!"[/derpface]). No drinks in me either.
