Yes, this is slightly dumb, but there is no reason to lock this thread.

Some people do in fact believe that fish does not count as "meat," in that they are vegetarians that also eat fish. They are obviously incorrect since meat is generally defined as animal flesh, which fish are included in. But some people are retarded, so I guess that's why this thread was posted.

No, vegetarians aren't less 'veggy' because they eat fish. They go veggy because they feel sorry for the animals or w/e, but apparently don't feel sorry for the fish. They decide what they eat themselves, so they are veggy in the stretch of what vegetarianism means to them.

Like I said, I know it's not a vegetable, and I know it's a kind of a meat but not in the same sense as Pork or Beef or whatever. I guess it's about where it comes from or whatever? I have no idea, but I simply don't view fish as a type of meat in the same sense I do cows or pigs or whatever.
I haven't got any logical reasoning behind this argument but all my life I've viewed fish as separate to meat, I mean, I know technically speaking it's meat but it's always just stood on it's own, like we have meat, and then we have fish.

Anyway...I always thought it was silly when people would not eat meat, but then eat fish. I know people do that for lent, and there's a story behind it....but I still think it's silly.

Fish is a meat because it's the flesh of an animal as other's have said. Although badly worded I'm pretty sure what whyme's trying to get at is why do some vegetarians eat fish whereas other's do not in the long run of things.

The answer is that supposedly fish can't feel pain in the same way other animals can, it used to be thought they had no pain receptors and couldn't feel pain at all. More recent studies show fish do have pain receptors although they work differently to other animals. And more recent studies say fish are complicated and their pain receptors are equally complicated and different depending on the fish, and in short no one actually knows or puts the money and effort in to find out because they don't really care either.

In short, vegetarians don't eat meat for various reasons, one being cruelty to animals etc etc
fish can't feel pain - pescetarians come around and eat fish.

And at a complete guess I suppose it has something to do with history, culture and probably religion of pescetarianism in the past and it's just carried on since. There being more fish, easily accessible, easier to prepare or something. You never heard about Jesus eating chicken now, it was all fish and bread.
