So xxjoesusxx was featured on Kotaku

Yeah remember him? Because he and his company are trying to obtain the rights to make a sequel to Bad Dudes, the cult-classic that spawned: "Are you a bad enough dude to X?" He seems really devoted to the project, however, messing with a cult-classic like Bad Dudes is really risky, especially considering that his other projects never really made it off the ground. Still, he sounds like he knows what he's doing. Here's a link to the Kickstarter page. Thoughts?

I know you're all going to hate me for this, but I simply can't approve of this project. It's another indie project attempting to ride the wave of the retro trend and it's on Kickstarter no less. I'm sorry but I just can't see this being a quality game in the end.

Best of luck to him and his team, I hope they get the funding and something comes out of it. I'd have liked it come from another source, because everyone uses Kickstarter these days, but at least it gives them the freedom to do whatever.

I agree entirely.

As one of the commentators pointed out: The art is absolutely atrocious.

I don't know- I don't mind this newer piece of concept art- doesn't look too bad (it just needs to be finished).
The Flash-based(?) stuff looks.. not so good, though.

Nah, I can see where your concern is going. Retro-styled games are really cliche, and everyone uses Kickstarter now, so one might not think there could be a whole lot going for the project. Though Joe said something about not wanting a retro style, so maybe it'll be a modern 2-D beat-em up, like Castle Crashers.

Yeah, I can agree, though it appears just to be art just to show a proof of concept. The new concept art posted by Zondekel actually looks really good, and is probably what the actual art will look like.

I kind of disagree. While I don't have super high hopes for the thing, I don't mind it's existence by any means. A bunch of Bad Dudes fans got the rights to make a sequel. They didn't have any money, so they asked some people for some. I really don't think it's as shallow as just "wanting to ride the trend". To be completely honest, retro games are far easier to make than modern looking titles. Especially when the game is a sequel to a game that already exists anyway. I could see the whole riding the trend thing if it was just another sprite-art based beat-em-up, but that isn't the case here.

But I do agree with greatman3388 that if they want me to get it, they'd better have some better art than what's up there.

Joesus is a buster.

But we should use Kickstarter to fund a sequel to Banjo-Tooie, that'd be boss.

Never played the original, but if this takes off and he hits it big, I'll get to say I knew him way back when.

I like Kickstarter but the last thing I want is another Banjo game. I played Nuts and Bolts and thought 'Why does anyone like Banjo? Looks pretty shit'. No idea why Banjo is so overhyped all the time.

Has Pinstripe games put out anything at all? I remember them working on some game that was plagued with problems and looked pretty bland from the trailers they had for it.

That initial art was horrifying. I loved the original, but I don't think rebooting it would really help to break ground or push anything forward, especially considering there's that Double Dragon reboot which isn't really doing anything different either. At least I can tell this is done with relatively pure intentions. Joesus was always a tight mechanics over innovation kind of guy, so I dunno. Either way, there's no way they'll make that budget in 22 days. Also rest in peace, Battletoads.
