French cancellation of Batman premier
Ok, so forget the guns. Forget the incident in America where the most liberal views can make most people there have their period early.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18922567 Why would they cancel it in France? Didn't Adam claim it wasn't even Batman where the shooting happened? What, it's not like the film is so hardcore it makes people start attacking people. Discuss.

Consider this your thread to bitch about gun rights. I won't remove anything here unless it gets totally out of hand.

interestingly the shooting apparently happened when they were showing the trailer for 'deadline' as opposed to in the middle of the movie, hm.

I wont say any more on the matter unless provoked. I've said what I wanted to say, made my opinions clear. I'm done as far as legislation is involved.
But on the topic of this actual story - I can understand why they've done it, if not the logic behind it. They're worried that it'll happen again, even though I highly doubt it would. But it's a shame that this tragic story in America has had negative repercussions on the actual movie itself in other countries.

People are bloody idiots. Let's cancel a movie because of an isolated incident that had nothing at all to do with the movie itself, okay.

It might have been in bad taste for people to be celebrating a new movie, when 70 people got gunned down simply for seeing it.

We still don't know (unless I've missed a news bulletin) why the cinema was targetted at that time. He might have been against the movie, or he might wanted to get as much publicity doing this as possible. I personally think this disaster could've happened at any premiere or big event. I just think this one was the closest event on a short time basis after his mind presumably snapped.
Also, heard he had his entire room tripwired to explode in case someone other than him entered it. Reminded me of Death Note. The one thing I care about most in this whole case though is the 'why' of this all. You don't just go from a perfectly happy student to a crazy-prepared terrorist that is willing to even murder himself just to keep people from getting in his apartment.

I think it's just an over-obsessed fan. There was no point to it, he probably masturbated over the Joker killing people. It's like when someone throws a breeze block off a bridge onto a motorway, except apparently he chose something more effective which was lying around.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...it-prison.html See, doing it for fame. So obsessed with the Joker he even took the same drugs Heath Ledger took. Lolwut?

No. Adam claimed, if I recall correctly, that the shooting had nothing to do with Batman. Except for planning when it would occur, of course. So on that note, you're right. The film isn't one that just makes people want to start killing senselessly.

I'd imagine this guy would've found another film to be obsessed about. He would've used any film villain, it's just The Dark Knight's villians are so awesome that he was attracted to it. Hell, he would've dressed up as Team Rocket and did the motto before killing everyone if there was no better option.

No, Warner Bros. is doing the sensible thing and cancelling premieres (essentially giant celebrations) of TDKR out of respect to the victims on the Colorado shooting. They're basically "toning it down". It's a dark cloud that'll hang over the film for a while and everyone knows it. It's gauche to have worldwide premieres ongoing in the wake of this incident. Think about it; even during the premieres, the only statements the cast and crew would be making would be in regard to the shootings, and if they got in a word or two about their great experiences while making the film, it would just make everything all the more awkward. It's what any company with any sensible PR management would do.

Thank you. Raul, Dick Durphy, and Girl Josh would be proud of me.
