Could Megaman 10 be the last Megaman game chronologically?

That virus that's possessing robots in Megaman 10 sounds an awful lot like the Sigma virus from Megaman X. Could it be possible that this is chronologically the last game in the Megaman era? I don't know a lot about the Megaman story, but the two viruses are very similar. Discuss.

In order for there to effectively be an ending, the virus would have to be cured. Maybe a more powerful version, the Sigma Virus, is created later, though.

They can't end the game with Dr. Light storing Megaman, or whatever he did, so that the next game starts at the beginning of Megaman X?

If I recall, X is a different character than Mega Man. He was based on the original Mega Man model, but is a different character.

Oh, I thought he was the original Megaman, but older and with updated technology. Hold on, there may be something about it in the Megaman X Collection instruction booklet.

As far as I'm concerned X and MM are not the same person (but I think Protoman and Zero are). I seem to remember a scene in MMX4 showing a flashback with Sigma as a good guy, he was a Maverick Hunter before turning evil. So I don't really think the viruses are the same...

The instructions don't make it clear, I think Dylan was right about X being based off of Megaman, not sure about the Protoman and Zero thing. This virus may just be a prototype of Sigma, not the real thing.

X is different from Megaman. It's not really known what happens to the original Megaman though.

I'm 99% sure Zero isn't Protoman. The only thing that links them together is they're both coloured red.

Really, some finality or actual plot for the original Megaman games would be sweet, with some more refrences to X. Megaman 7 had a bit of a change at the end, but I heard it's more of a case of mistranslation.

But, this is Capcom, and I don't think they'll end it. Ever. They'll just keep making money. Megaman's an impressive series because the whole series' plot spans 100s of years, and they relate to eachother, but the classic series is the most disjointed from the rest.

Someone told me that they were also both made by Dr. Wily. Plus, Zero's ending in the US version of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom involves:

I knew that Megaman came first, but I thought that Legends, Battle Network, and Starforce were all part of their own individual universes. The only one I played out of those three was Megaman Legends 2, so...

Nah, Light made Protoman. But Protoman escaped, but was faulty, and Wily fixed him. That's why Protoman's so mysterious.

Wily did make Zero, for sure though.

Legends is part of the main series, I'm pretty sure. It's supposedly set like thousands of years after the others though, I think.

BN and Star Force are individual/split timelines.
