There wasn't alternate endings, they were just funny joke around alternate endings made by the writers.

This is exactly how I viewed the ending of Lost. I actually started thinking about this morning, and then I found that Philly D had posted a video explaining what I was thinking

Man, when has a series ever gone out on its best episode? Blackadder, maybe? Scenes from the show have made me smile, shocked me, or given me goosebumps, but I don't think I've ever cried from it. And I cried four times during the finale.

I wouldn't have changed a damn thing. Well, maybe show how Ben got out from under that tree that probably was trimmed in editing, but I didn't even remember that until after it finished.

I thought it was brilliant. Emotionally it built up and built up. Everytime there was a memory flash in the purgatory, I felt myself choking up, only for it to come out in gushes when when I saw all the characters happy and together and I love the final shots bringing the show full circle (I love it when shows do that, Doctor Who did it with 10th's death and that nearly had me going)

I do think the episode was a tiny bit too long, although that said, I can't think of a single thing that should have been cut and I don't think it was the ending that the writers would have had planned since season 1, but I can forgive that and I can forgive the Deus Ex Machina nature of the season when you look at the show. In the six seasons it had, it created this perfect set of characters, all superbly acted and written, an amazing fantasy environment and such a phenomonal achievement. You can dislike the show, but you cannot argue that it not only changed the way we look at narrative in television (Lost popularised the non linear narrative on TV), changed the way drama is made (without it, we wouldn't have had Flashforward, Heroes (coincedentally cancelled all at the same time), redefined the "watercooler moment" and re-ignited conspiracy theories to maximum level.

So I will miss Lost. There will never be another show like it and I'm glad to see that something so ambitious, so tantalising and so fantastic ended so perfectly.

Hey everyone. I know I haven't been in this thread in a little while. I had other things I wanted to do and I also wanted to ponder for a while on what I thought of the ending to really formulate an opinion about it.

I thought the episode itself was positively fantastic. The island conclusion was very exciting and the end for the characters was, I thought, suitably touching. I thought the ending definitely fit with what seemed to be the main point of the whole show: These people were brought to the island because of their broken, messed up lives. Through this experience on the island, all of the characters redeemed themselves and also found people that they were meant to be with. In the end, they all were able to go to heaven together in their afterlife after they died. It seemed like the best way to give closure for the characters.

However, while the ending was generally really good, I still think it could have been even better. I felt like they covered the most important things, but those answers still were a lot more simple than I thought they would be. I could go into all of the little details that bothered me, but I don't feel like I need to right now. I basically just felt like there could have been more to it than there was. I think in the middle parts of the show, it became so ambitious that it was really hard to end it in a way to please everyone.

Overall, Lost was a very enjoyable show and I'm still glad I watched it, even though it could possibly have been better. Still, with how ambitious this show was, it would have been really hard to end it much better than they did. It still was one heck of a fun journey, and better than most shows on TV right now, IMO.

On an added note, all of the final shots on the island (Jack lying down in the jungle with Vincent beside him, plane flying off, eye closes) were absolutely perfect. Very poignant, I must say.

Great, now I have to buy the DVD.

Or wait for it to be illegally uploaded on the Internet a few days later.

I loved every second of it. The only thing I didn't like about it was how the writers thought it would be hilarious to put hieroglyphics on the giant cork.
