Backers VS Reviewers: Do We Want YL?

With reviews on Yooka-Laylee spilling out to the public, a lot of critics are unimpressed with the final product. There are some valid complaints that I think most of us are not happy to hear about, but at what point does it become about something different? Is Yooka-Laylee really as bad as some reviewers have claimed?

It seems to be that this game was made for us. A minority of gamers that have been aching for a Rare-vival for years. When the reviewers are complaining about the pointless collectibles or gobbledygook speech it just lowers their credibility IMO.

So basically my question for you is this, do you think the critics are being too hard on Yooka-Laylee? Are you worried? Or do you think the criticism is entirely justified? I know the game is not released yet but let's be honest, we know what the game is going to be for the most part. It's Banjo done in 2017, a 3D platformer revival, a return to form and I could not be more excited.

The game looks fantastic. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Yep, some of those reviewers didn't want a 90s style platformer. The game wasn't for them.

It seems alot of what I've seen is "This game plays like it's from the 90's". Which, IMO, is the whole point.

Not to say there aren't legitimate issues that they raised, like the camera, but the general gist I've seen is that reviewers think it plays too archaically. I enjoy Jim Sterling for his jimquisitions, but his reviews are not something I take seriously, especially when he said had issues with Laylee's personality. I was like, that's the whole point, she's supposed to be a sorta jerk.

I had some issues with the camera in the toybox, as well as there being two shadows (one under your location, another cast on the area around you). It being a bit tricky to know where you are in the air unless you CAN see the ground below you, which you couldn't always.

The rest of reviews.... I don't follow sponsored reviews anymore. Because they are paid. Would rather hear the review of someone who is not biased.

Got my steam key but can't even download it until next week. Should have let us play sooner given its the weekend.
I have read some of the reviews, but from the videos I've seen my main concern is that the worlds feel emptyish, or of too big an scale for it's own good it's like a mile from one point of interest to another as if it was BotW. And the fact that from 5 worlds, the casino one looks really really bland and the first one doesn't appeal much to me either.

But otherwise I find all the complaints about cameras and platforming a bit weird, people can put up with things Dark Souls platforming where the jump button is the same as the sprint button and you have to move the camera yourself with the same hand that you use to sprint and a slight mistake will cost you a loading screen but suddenly platforming...on a platformer is tedious? lol

I'll end this thread with one sentence.

Cynical gamers win, move on with your life or keep clinging to 'nostalgic' kickstarter revivals and make the same mistakes over and over again.

These are the same reviewers who liked Shovel Knight. I'm taking their word with a grain of salt.
