DMC4 was pretty good. The final boss was disappointing though. It was hard until I figured out what to do, then I didn't even get hurt. Now onto DmC: Devil May Cry.

the attempts at social commentary in that game are the most ridiculous things ever. it's literally laughable, it's like something written by a pretentious 14 year old who thinks everyone else in the world is dumb.
(game itself is decent tho)

DmC is in "so bad it's good" territory. It's so over-over-top Shadow the Hedgehog level edgy that it's just completely hilarious.

As in, campy? Because the series is all about being campy.

I can't personally judge DmC, and by all accounts it isn't a bad game, but I can't say that I've liked anything I've seen or heard about the game. I'll give it a fair shot if I ever get the chance, but it's not an action game I actively want to play based on what I've heard about the gameplay and it's portrayal of Dante.
Anyway, I think I've gotten kind of burned out on classic Mega Man. I'm moving on to X, though I might revisit some of the classic games as well as Mega Man & Bass later down the line. If I want to play hard NES games until then, I can go have another attempt to get through Castlevania 1 or 3. (castlevania 2 is for losers) Last edited by The Colonel; 18th October 2014 at 04:58 AM. |

There's an area in the game that has the words "OBESITY" and "STUPIDITY" just floating around. No context or reason, they're just there. I felt like that one area really summed up the extent of its ability at social commentary.

The opening sequence to DMC is too bad ass, probably the most bad ass thing I've ever seen in a video game.

I love the original Devil May Cry games even though I suck at them. Devil May Cry 1 has issues with being a pretty early action game of it's kind, but Devil May Cry 3 is ****ing sweet. In a game world that takes itself so seriously while simultaneously being really ridiculous, having a protagonist who takes it about as seriously as the player does is great.

I played the original 4 games over the past two months. Been one hell of a ride. The new one just looks all kinds of different and I don't know why they couldn't have just gone with DMC5. I don't really have an opinion on the new Dante yet. As for how he looks, like the old Dante with black hair and a dirty coat. Could do worse.

Goddamn it, Rising Zan is ****ing awful. It's a game that should be really fun, the combat is perfectly fine and the overall style is like a proto-Samurai Western God Hand, but dear god the framerate and camera. The PS1 was not made for Devil May Cry-style action games.
It runs so godawfully that the controls have a huge delay, making it get really wonky when it tries to register whether you're using a normal attack or a special move. The QTEs present in the game are horribly broken and appear to be incredibly luck-reliant, and it generally feels way more clunky than any action game should. I really wanted to like it, because it's got a lot of similarities to God Hand and Devil May Cry, but it's got such a horrible case of "the console was technologically incapable of running it" that it ruins everything. |

I found a real hidden gem on the Gamecube called 'Dr. Muto'. It's such a great game, it's a collectathon platformer where you play as a mad scientist who accidentally blew up the earth.
its fun as helll go pirate it

I recently got addicted to the SA2 chao garden again. Pic related, it's Jerry, he's my favorite.
Also, cheatengine is really fun.

When people said System Shock 2 has an awful ending, they weren't kidding. Basically everything after you leave the Von Braun is a mess and the ending was absolutely ridiculous and felt like something out of an entirely different game.

DMC: Devil May Cry
Pros: It's fun, the music is good, it look amazing and is oozing with style. A lot of DMC staples are here, intact. Thankfully, the platforming has taken a turn for the better. It's not revolutionary, but it's certainly the best this series has ever had. Cons: So far levels seem to be just a straight run to the finish. I liked in the other games where you'd explore a single area, and re-traverse surreal areas. It's too easy. A big no-no. I'm on the hardest available difficulty and I've only died once on a boss and maybe 3 or 4 times total and I'm about halfway through the game. Neutrals: Dante's appearance. He looks okay to me. Nothing was really improved, but not much was lost either. The writing. I'm a bit hesitant to give my final opinion on this but so far it's lacking that self-awareness the other games had. The old Dante seemed to know the situations he got himself into were ridiculous, and he took every crazy thing the demon world could throw at him in stride and with a cheeky one-liner. The new Dante lacks this, and the writers have decided to go for a punkish ****-the-world type of Dante. This isn't my favorite angle but I can't say it doesn't fit well with the context of the game, which indeed presents a world very much worth saying "**** you" to, so Dante's disposition doesn't really come off as naive and immature. The same can't be said about the game's social commentary however, where the main villain, a demon king/CEO of a global corporation who is controlling the world with soda and monitoring everything everyone does through cameras. This is where the old Dante's keen awareness for the series' progressively insane scenarios would help the game's story and themes. Also playing Banjo-Tooie and Doom 3. Doom 3 is also too easy. I mean, I am on normal but come on, this is supposed to be a horror game. I can hardly be horrified if the enemies are as easy to take down and do as much damage as water balloons. Also, you can't change difficulty on the fly, so by the time I realized that hey, this game is piss-easy, it was too late. Last edited by Esteban Colberto; 22nd October 2014 at 10:33 PM. |

You know I was actually enjoying Parappa the Rappa this time despite the awkward timing up until the fourth level and now I'm entirely convinced that Parappa the Rapper is literally unplayable past level 4 without hours of practice with the inconsistent timing.
I get that it's, like, the first rhythm game ever worth giving a damn about but how did they **** up the timing so badly, holy shit |
