While I haven't physically played it, the ending to Bad Fur Day/Live and Reloaded left me with this weird empty feeling.

Probably because I had no idea that sort of ending could come from that type of game, let alone Rare.

Don't forget that he is also a sandwich who is a porn star and dressed as a penguin the entire time.

I nearly cried at the ending to Mother 3. I don't know if this counts, but the night I beat Mother 2 I could hardly sleep, I felt disturbed by the last battle. I felt mentally "off" for the next couple of days after that. Shigesato Itoi is a master of evoking emotion from the player.

Oh I disagree. I felt nothing about anything of the characters, so I quit playing once I got to Fourside in Earthbound.

No game or anything really has ever made my cry...

But the endings of Persona 3 and 4 came damn near close. O_o

Except Earthbound was pretty much a joke at the beginning and only gradually get more serious. If you stopped at Fourside, you haven't gotten anywhere.

Furthermore, you've continuously ignored the fact that Mother 3 is serious from beginning to end and is a lot less frustrating early on than Earthbound.

The Great Deku Tree's death in OoT.

... Laugh all you want, he was awesome from the little I knew of him, I was 6, and I thought I had actually saved him by killing Queen Gohma.

So when's the game get serious? When do the characters become interesting?

The lame humor was one of the major turn-offs to me. If they actually drop the suicide inducing humor after a while and actually get a story going I might try the game again.

Two things.

1) Earthbound wasn't exactly difficult from what I played.

2) I barely talk about Mother 3 because I'm less familiar with it than Earthbound. Not that Mother 3 had anything to do with what I'm talking about.

I'll be honest, you probably won't feel that much about Ness/Paula/Jeff until the end. Poo, on the other hand, is an interesting character to begin with. He appears around the time when the plot starts to pick up, which as I recall is shortly after you finish with Fourside. The totally awesome humor is never dropped though.

I thought you were referring to the series as a whole since Mother 3 was in the above comment. It's always felt your hatred is for the series as a whole, with a "Mother 3 can't possibly be better" vibe. My apologies.
