The ultimate question about the video game industry
If given the chance, how would you fix the video game industry.
Anything goes! Hard mode: You can choose one game company (console maker or not) to rebuild as you see fit. Nightmare mode: No indie games The burning flames of /v/ mode: Take all the advice of /v/ Le reddit mode: Integrate reddit into everything Dead End mode: kill off one game company of your choice Your choices will matter, you will be graded on this, do not disappoint me RWP. BEGIN!

1. Kill off the big three demons.. EA, Ubisoft, Activision
2. Rebuild Maxis so it isn't a *** bucket for EA and its semen made of money 3. Wipe out all consoles, and there will only be one 4. No shitty online activation, DRM,no loss of codes when buying a game use 5. Games cost $40 or less. Just because one guy sells for 60 doesn't mean everyone should sell for 60

1. Destroy Activision, EA, and Zynga
2. Donate money to Obsidian 3. Force developers to make all PC ports be good 4. Get rid of all over-restrictive DRM

Then of course there's the fact that AAA titles cost tons of money to produce. Forcing people to make each new game $20 less than the standard isn't going to fund anyone and no one is going to care enough to make a good game. This thread isn't "how to make gaming more convenient for us at the expense of the company". It's how to save the gaming market. But seriously one way I see to fix the game industry is to just give publishers less power over developers. This is why people hate EA and Activision so much. When a publisher decides to fund a game, they're buying the IP. Meaning that the creation by the developer doesn't belong to them anymore and they have to get permission from the publisher to make another game in the series. That also means that if they publisher doesn't like the way the developer is handling the IP, they can just take it away and give it to someone else. I'd also tweak publishers to take more risks. This will end saturation of one genre and reward developers for making interesting disisions with their IPs.

1. Get all old Rare members at Rare and make Chris Seavor master chief of the company.
2. Give Rare the James Bond license as it is wasted with Activision. 3. Bunch a lot of talented people to help Rare. 4. Bunch other people to make things which don't need any particular talent to help Rare. 5. Destroy Activision. 6. Force LucasArts to make Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and Star Wars games, and possibly fuse them with Rare. 7. Force Traveller's Time to make more Lego games but less glitchy. 8. Kinect will stop its existence. |

both of these, especially number 2. Bethesda treated them like absolute garbage.

1. Eliminate Microsoft and Sony from the console war and add SEGA in. Also prevent all other companies from joining it.
2. Prevent Nintendo from ever making a network like Microsoft and Sony did. 3. Restore Rare to it's former glory and put it back with Nintendo. 4. Eliminate EA, Ubisoft, and Activision. 5. Revive all of the fallen video game heroes (y'know, Duke Nukem, Crash, Spyro, etc.) 6. Restore Maxis to its former glory. 7. Stop all of this Iphone/Ipad/cell phone gaming. 8. Make sure all games released from now on are good. 9. Remake Sonic '06, so it can stop haunting me in my nightmares. 10. Make sure Nintendo consoles and games are always low priced. If you want high-priced advanced graphics and huge, expansive worlds, put it on PC.

I rather have... a new Banjo-Kazooie game, or Conker, or Perfect Dark or... new IPs.

Plus after Seaver and a couple of others left Rare, it just ended up with Rare as a company being really easy pushovers. If Rare went back to Nintendo, they'd be as deep in their pockets as they are with Microsoft. Just be happy they didn't get sold off to EA or Activision. At least the Kinect games that Microsoft has them making are really good (if you're into that sort of thing).
