They patched it to unlock things faster, but I'm still getting it only once per day? I read somewhere that if you place a lot of blocks and stuff it'll unlock faster, but I messed around for a little over an hour and haven't unlocked anything else yet...

You need to use every item you unlock at least once, I believe.

so is it not possible to have warp pipes within the same area? because it seems like they're giving me way less control over where the warp pipes go than i ought to have. why can it not be simple.

I believe the rule is 4 sets of pipes, and they all transfer between the sub and main level. Doors are for making a warp on the same level.

Also, I really hope they hurry up and add checkpoints. It makes no sense to me that they didn't include them to begin with, and the whole game will be hugely, fundamentally improved if they add them.
