I think that too. Episode 3 as F2P game and after months - Half-Life 3.

Why would they make it F2P? It would be a short, singleplayer game.

Because it can be 5-10 hours long and we waited for it 5 years...

That doesn't mean they have to make it F2P. You don't put years of hard work into a game, just to make it Free.

What do you think about Team Fortress 2 as F2P?
Also Valve have a lot of $$$ so they can release Episode 3 as F2P, especially if EP3 will be just a prelude to retail Half-Life 3.

TF2 is F2P because they have an in-game shop to make money off of. It's a multiplayer game, too, not a singleplayer one with limited playability.

And if Episode 3 is F2P, what then? Just let people who have never played a Half-Life game before drop in to the story and become incredibly confused as to what's going on? No, that wouldn't work.

You know...fans waited since 2007, there was a long silence. Valve must find a way to fix it.

I'm sure people would gladly pay $15 or, hell even $5 to get a game they were waiting for forever. Valve would fix it by making a great game.

I do agree. I'm pretty sure that next Half-Life game won't be another DNF

Likely not, considering Half-Life is a game series that doesn't rush to mimic every other FPS released during development.

Duke Nukem Forever was in development in 15 years (since 1996 to 2011). The game was mentioned as best FPS ever made and that it will release when "it's done". In 2009 the game was cancelled. In 2010 the game was resurrected and finally released in 2011. Bad PR about game and fact that DNF is just a good game (like 6-7/10) lead to rate 46% at gamerankings.com
BIG FAIL

Next Half-Life was never mentioned by Valve as best FPS ever made. Valve decided to be silent about it untill game will be in final riot. Also game is in development since 2007 so 5 years passed, not 15.
I think that something happend during Episode 3 development, most likely in Middle or Late 2008, something which changed the game so much. Maybe it became Half-Life 3 or maybe it is still Episode 3 just with diffrent and longer story.

Since December 2011 i'm sure that next Half-Life game is closer to us than even before.

P.S. You can't logically discuss Half-Life 3 with BanjoPL.

WHY??? Only because i can't agree with people who name upcoming HL game as Half-Life 3?
Valve NEVER confirmed that it will be Half-Life 3. HL3 is just a speculation.
In fact it can be Half-Life 3, Half-Life 2: Episode Three or just Half-Life with subtitle.
It doesn't matter.
I'm going to name it as "next Half-Life".

I'm very sick about HL3 mails send to GabeN. They're totally pointless.

You don't understand my posts. I love when sequel carry on excatly where last game left on. It's continuation. I just said that EP2 ending was set for third episodic expansion not for a fully sequel. Episodes arc was planned as THREE games, not two. Just listen Gabe's first comment at the start of Episode Two - "we're in the middle of story which will conclude in Episode 3". Story telling by episodes was supposed to be told by THREE episodes, not Half-Life 3. I'm still suprised that Valve didn't name episodes as HL3 Episode One, HL3 Episode Two etc. My guess is that they had an idea for Half-Life 3 as follow up to the ending of EP3. Who knows what happen now...after "twists and turns".
BTW HL2 ending was perfect set for HL3.

Episode 3 as F2P...as suprise for hardcore fans. Why not? Aren't you suprised that Portal 2 DLC#1 and DLC#2 are free? I'm suprised that they're free.
