Hell yeah. Problem? I don't think mods/admins should be able to lock a thread without a legit reason. Or just because "they don't like it."

YK, I've PMed you multiple times as to why your threads are locked. And I've given you reasons. And Troll clowns has given you reasons. Try not to discuss this kind of thing in the open, okay? It either leads into posts getting deleted or a thread getting utterly derailed.

A quality thread is a thread that promotes some sort of appropriate discussion. A good example is the one you're reading right now. As long as it doesn't get crazy off track for some reason, (such as, for a totally unrelated example, staff bashing!) it wouldn't be locked by me or anyone else. The staff has unanimously agreed months ago that sex threads, except rare exceptions, are not appropriate and will be locked on sight from now on. Go be horny somewhere else, guys.

I never locked a thread because I didn't like it. I only lock threads because they do not warrant a conversation (Read as: The whyme OCD-esque threads from a while back) or are inappropriate (read as: Any thread YK seems to make).

But how do you know what warrants a conversation and what doesn't? I can understand the "I just did/said/bought this" threads need to be locked, because they're better as blog posts, but seriously, how do you know what people actually want to discuss? You can't read minds. Every thread is created for a reason-- reason being, the one who created the thread has something to share/discuss with the rest of the members here. If it's not something that's completely useless, I think we should have the right to discuss it. Unless it gets completely vulgar and/or inappropriate in which case, locking would be your best option.

I'm not against you, Greatman, I'm just sayin'.

edit: By the way, I find some of these threads hilarious and I always shake my head when they get locked. Haha. If it's not a profanity spouting shitstorm, why not? It's just fun sometimes.

If I know a thread is meant to be a joke, I'll purposefully leave it unlocked for a day or so, or until it gets out of hand. Threads that are not meant to be a joke but have the conversation quality of a joke thread get locked.

You mentioned things that aren't all that interesting, but are still able to be posted. I used to be harder on them, but frankly I just don't care all that much any longer about actual thread quality. As long as it warrants some some of appropriate conversation, I'll leave it be. Thread quality is/used to be(?) a big issue here. This is ome of those damned if you do, damned if you don't things. I either lock and do not encourage blog/"boring" posts and get yelled at, or I leave them be and get yelled at by the other half of the community for not doing my job and having uninteresting threads, which is all people would complain about a few months ago.

And now you see why doing this can get pretty frustrating at times.

It wasn't made. It was just agreed upon in the staff forum.

That being said, my joke rule will overrule the no-sex threads rule. If a thread is obviously a joke, I won't lock it unless it gets really out of hand. This is more of a personal thing, so other staff may have different ideas about this.

tl;dr jokes are okay, sex is not.
