"Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
For those of you that don't know, the "don't ask, don't tell" policy prohibits anyone who has sexual contact with a person of the same sex from serving in the United States, and prohibits any homosexual or bisexual from disclosing his or her sexual orientation.
In the news magazine "The Week", I read an extremely compelling argument that is against this policy. It had never really mattered to me before, but this was a very interesting thing to read. Here it is: "The rule definitely isn’t working, said former Navy petty officer Stephen Benjamin in The New York Times. Under “don’t ask, don’t tell,” our undermanned military has forced out 13,000 loyal soldiers it could badly use. Among them were 58 Arabic-language specialists, including me. Because of a shortage of Arabic speakers in September 2001, intercepted terrorist cables that revealed an imminent attack went unread. Because the military still discriminates against gay people, in other words, we may have lost a chance to avoid the 9/11 attacks. This “idiotic” policy never made much sense, said the Los Angeles Times in an editorial, and it’s even more “self-defeating” today. The British and Israeli armies let gays serve; so do those of 22 other countries, with no panic in the showers or loss of “unit cohesion.” In our own military, most soldiers have told pollsters that they know some of their colleagues are gay, and couldn’t care less. Isn’t it time the rest of our country grew up?" Source: The Week So what do you guys think? |

This is a bunch of bull. Why would they prohibit someone from serving in the US military just because they're different? It's cruel and it makes no sense, especially when they could use those people in the service. It's really sad, and I feel terrible for the people who want to serve but aren't able to due to their sexual orientation. God forbid there be zOMG GAYS in the army! NOT THAT!

Yeah, that's absolutely ridiculous. They have the ability to serve their country and be incredibly invaluable... it's stupid that this is even an argument.
They might as well kick everyone out the army who's not a white Christian republican while they're at it.

Well, when it was instated, it was the only thing that could get passed that would allow gays into the army.

I may not fully agree with the lifestyle of gays, but it's wrong to tell them they can't serve their country.

I remember hearing something about this on the radio a long while back. But guys, come on, think of the potentials if they keep out gays in the army!
If the army is having a draft, and you get selected, just write out on one of those little cards that will give you a chance to not be forced into the service with, "I can't go to war because I'm gay." I'm telling ya guys, loopholes. EDIT: Wait a second...This is the exact same thing I'm AGAINST! Why must my words betray me?! D:

There is no good reason for gays to not be allowed in the military. Seriously, can anyone think of one good reason?

i was reading something about this a while ago. apparently one reason that they don't want gay people serving in the military is because they think soldiers will be distracted by the gay guys checking them out. that sort of makes sense.

I am against the don't ask, don't tell crap. But my dad had one semi-OK response to it. He's also against it, but he did bring up one sorta valid point.
Men and women are in different barracks for a reason. To keep men away from sexually assaulting the women. But gay men would be forced to stay with the straight men, therefore making it much easier to be assaulted. I dunno what to say on this one. It might not sound good the way I posted it, but it sounded a bit more valid when my dad posted it. Of course, this isn't a reason to exclude gay men from the army. They could easily solve that problem. |

Alright I finally have a solution to the problem. Make a 3rd barrack. The homosexual barrack. Hace the gays and lesbians sleep in there and bam problem solved. Everybody is a winrar.
