Love Wish Crisis

NOTE: Don't get all sappy; the following story involves supernatural occurrences and doesn't involve me or anyone on this entire PLANET.

So, imagine this scenario. You are with someone you love for a couple years. You think everything is perfect and want to spend the rest of your life with the person. You guys get along great, rarely argue, and have an overall good/happy time with each other.

Then, you get a genie bottle and out comes a genie. The genie promises to grant you a wish, and you say something cute like "I'd wish for the love of my life but I already have them" to make your significant other blush. But, out of confusion, the genie GRANTS your wish and presents you with a different person (of the gender of your current partner.)

The question is, do you really doubt the power of a being like a genie who can grant wishes beyond your imagination and stay with your current partner (potentially missing out on the love of your life.) Or do you leave your mate for this new one since he/she is allegedly the one you'll find true lifetime happiness with?

It's a conspiracy.

IMO, they might as well spend their time with the first person, as if they just break it off then and there the relationship will probably fizzle out and then their friendship might diminish. Not to mention they don't even know their apparent true love yet and have plenty of time to get to that later on. Who knows, if they start early, they might mess up "fate" or whatever. Unless that's really what they wanted in the end.

No, not fate messing up involved. It's your true love, period. You won't divorce this person fifteen years down the road because you found out they cheated on you; No, this is supposed to be the real deal.

Well, this depends on your interpetation of 'love'. I think 'love' between two people grows, over long periods of time. You can't just pop someone into existence and say "here you go, this is who you love with all your heart." Wouldn't work like that for me, I'd pick the current partner ten times out of ten.

And besides, I would've been with my current partner for two years already, and my love would've grown so deep for them that I wouldn't leave them for anyone else anyway. (Makes me think of how I feel for my REAL girlfriend, Manders. Heh. I would never EVER leave her for anyone, even if this scenario were able to come into play and exist, or something similar. I just couldn't leave her.) But back to the poll, I'd stay with the current partner, definitely.

Oh, yeah, of course it did. I still haven't decided on the other two wishes .

Also, you guys are looking too far into it. People are bringing in their beliefs, etc etc. It doesn't matter WHAT you believe. You are being presented with your TRUE LOVE, that is the utopian woman that you will, whether it be instantly or overtime, grow to adore more than your current girlfriend. Otherwise, your current love would be the true love.

For instance, your current partner could grow into an ego manic religious zealot. You don't know, I don't either, but that's the risk of the situation. It's a hypothetical situation. You can't pop into a question that starts "If God exists, and..." and then begin your response with "I'm not religious, so I don't believe in him." The guidelines have already been set for the question. The presented girl IS your true love, period.

And in response to MikeHive, the genie CAN pop into existence and tell you who you love with all your hard. That's the basis for the question. It might not be what you believe, but the question doesn't yield to personal view.

Isn't the genie notoriously a trickster? He grants you your wishes but with a weird consequences?Like you wish for money it land on you and break all of your bones sort of thing?

I'd go with the girl I already had. Even though this genie girl would be the love of my life no matter what, I wouldn't be able to live with myself from the guilt of causing my current love so much grief and leaving her heartbroken and leaving her for no actual reason.

Also if I really loved her, I wouldn't leave her for anything and would make myself not believe the genie.
