Have you ever played Earthbound?

Have you ever played Earthbound? The game is actually number two in a trilogy series called "Mother" in Japan. Unfortunately, the original Mother never made it outside of Japan, and with Japan excluded, the rest of the world hasn't seen Mother 3. Earthbound didn't have much success in the United States when it came out some twelve years ago partially for this reason, but today, the game is considered a cult classic among the fans who have been lucky to obtain a copy and play it for themselves.

Ness is the main character of Earthbound as you probably know, but a surprising amount of gamers have never played as Ness outside of the Smash Bros. series. If you're a fan of Earthbound (or the Mother series) please tell me some highlights!

Earthbound is only just my favorite game of all time! Actually, it's a tie between Earthbound and Mother 3. Best series ever!

I really loved Earthbound. It wasn't a technical RPG and didn't require too much thought or strategy to play it, but it had a lot of charm to it. Never played the first one yet and I'll admit I haven't gotten around to it at the fact it doesn't have wacky waving backgrounds in every battle.

I really wish Giygas would appear somewhere in Brawl. The battle with him was really cinematic for an SNES game.

Little bits on emulator, but since I hate PC emulation I really want them to bring it to the VC so I can experience it semi-properly.

Mother 1 - Yes, I played it, but I only made it part way through. I played it after Mother 2 so it was like downgrading which I think is why my attention span couldn't hold on to it.

Mother 2 - Yes, finished it in its entirety.

Mother 3 - Nope, never even touched it.

I had the chance to play it once, but I was small back then and didn't like RPG's.

Then I discovered Smash and wanted to learn more about Ness, but never found the game again.

Come on Grey, you should get around to playing Mother 3, it's easily the best in the series, or at least tied with Mother 2. Also, just to show how obsessed I am,

I have:
Beaten Mother once
Beaten Mother 2 three times
Beaten Mother 3 twice
Imported Mother 1+2 on the GBA so I could play the game on the go, even though I couldn't read it
Imported Mother 3 immediately after it was released

Well I would but it is all in Japanese and I like to actually EXPERIENCE my games not look at them and turn my head and refer to a translation the entire way through.

When they get around to ROM hacking an English version I will definitely play it. (Or Nintendo porting it, whichever comes first.)

All you've got to do is download an emulated version (if you don't mind playing it w/ a keyboard). Technically, though, your supposed to only keep emulated games for one day, unless you own them for the real system. I suppose it would be possible to beat it if you got up at 11:59 PM, finished downloading it at 12:00 AM, then played all day until 11:59 PM the next night.

I've never played it myself, but I watched Prome play it on his emulator and now I realy want to play it. I hope it shows up on the virtual console soon!

Giygas would make an awesome assist trophy. He (it?) could appear in the background as the creepy undulating background from the end of Earthbound, then do his attack from said final boss fight. The words "You can not comphrehend the true nature of Giygas' attack" could even appear at the top of the screen (similar to Pokemon Trainer's final smash)!

Played it first through emulation (w/cheats ). Beat it twice on actual hardware. Haven't bothered to go through Mother 1 or 3 yet (M1 confused me at first and I'm waiting for full the translation for M3).

I forgot to leave some highlights!! My favorite highlight of my experience was when I was in Twoson, about to get on the Runaway Five's Tour Bus to go to Threed. I had a chicken in my pack, so I used the "For Sale sign" to sell it for a profit. I waited for a few minutes and no one showed up, so I hopped on the bus. While in the tunnel to Threed (remember, I was on the tour bus) and my phone rang. I picked it up and a guy had this to say: "I looked and looked and couldn't find you. If you're trying to sell something, you should wait for people to come. You need to be more considerate to your costumers." After I got to Threed, I used the sign again and a costumer came up almost instantly, so in the end I still made my money.

I also bought my own house with an "ocean view". Yep, many a day I would sit in my living room and watch the sun set through the huge hole in the wall.

I never was interested in it, and personally I don't think it deserves to be represented in the Smash series.
