Small Town?

Anyone live, or used to live, in a small town? I'm talking really small... like... in the ballpark of 500 people, more or less. Maybe not even that many, I never was sure.

Having spent my life in a small town, I completely, utterly, *****ing hate it. Maybe it's just my experience, but... I hated the town, I hated the people. It was 30 miles from the nearest "city" (which most people who live there would call it a town)... which meant there was a long drive if you ever wanted to do anything other than pick your ass and stare out the window.

I've been in university since September now, in a fairly decent sized city. I absolutely love it. Deep down I always felt like more of a city "kid" (not really a kid anymore ). Maybe that's why I never meshed with the small town life, which was boring and... well... small.

I love the noise of the city. I love the cramped space, the tall buildings, the fact that I have to look so far upwards just to see the sky. I love being able to do something right away, whether it's seeing a movie, or eating out, or BUYING GAMES... Jesus, that was the hardest thing. A new game would come out and I lived 30 minutes from where I could buy it. That's not normally a problem, but typically games would never be in on time. That's a pain in the ass when you live out of the city, you get to an EB and it's like "oh, we don't have that in yet. Maybe after 2:00 the delivery will be here" ...well I don't have until 2:00 you BUM, because that means I'd have to sit around and wait for the possibility of that shipment arriving (which it usually never did).

...but that's getting away from the point.

Anyway, that's my experience. Anyone else share the sentiment? Or do you think small town life is just fan-freaking-tastic?

Or do you even care at all, and I've just wasted your time?

Well, the town i live in is kinda small and remote. There are about 3000 people there, and the nearest city is about 300 km away. I have lived there for the last three years of my life, and i didn't think that it was too bad. I made some good friends, went to some good parties, it wasn't too bad.

You only lived 30 minutes from a place where you cold buy games? I live about 4 hours away.

Anyway im going to uni in two weeks, so i wont have to worry about that any more.

I live in a small town (and I'm not talking really small of 500), there is currently 1200 people in town (and I think that includes peopl ein surrounding farms).

I can't live in cities due to health reasons (too long a story to go into it all here). I feel like a city person, I like "being able to do something right away, whether it's seeing a movie, or eating out, or BUYING GAMES". The nearest city to me is 105kms (65 miles). I went to the Star Wars midnight screening, I got home at 4am, went to the Wii launch, got home at 2am. It gets annoying but there are good things too. Everyone in town knows me so when I have an achievement then I get all these congratulations from people (often heaps I don't know).

I live in Mesa where there's close to 500,000 people. The Phoenix-area has over 3 million though. Traffic can be bad...

The city I live in is only 2.5 square miles, if that counts!

EDIT: I was wrong, it's 2.5, not 4. And it has a population of 13,000, so maybe that doesn't count as small... Or maybe it does?

It even has it's own Wikipedia article! XD

I think any town population smaller than 50,000 is considered a "small town." But then again, I wouldn't really know. I'm just guessing.

I never lived in a small town before, so I don't really see your plight. I've lived in Brooklyn, NY and Orlando, Fl. Those towns are far from small. I sometimes feel there are just too many people around. The traffic jams, the crowds, the ugly scenery... well, I guess that's just in Orlando. It's a young city, relatively speaking, so it's still in the adolescent stage in its life.

There are times when I wish I could just get away; move to a small town where things are simple... but then I also wish I could keep all the entertaining stuff that keeps me busy. I guess you can't have everything in life. I suppose you have it worse, though. At least I get to play my games.

I live in a smallish town 7,000 people and the nearest "city" is 16 miles away (it doesn't count as a city but its the capital so it must be a city, but it doesn't have a Uni or cathedral). its annoying because all the decent shops are so far away and I need a parent to go their seen as I'm not old enough to drive. and only like 6 months ago we got a game shop but its independent and *****.

But i love this "small" town of mine as it contains most of my friends and the people i care about most and a trip of more than 15 miles is an adventure!

In my life, I've lived in Los Angeles, California, Stamford, Connecticut, and Lisbon, Portugal.

I've never lived in a area with a population below 110,000, so I guess I'm a city "kid"!

My town's totally not small, but not really that big either. D: Yet, living here in this part of town makes the city.. /feel/ small. To the point that we have to drive quite a bit away from the city to even find more decent shopping centers and the like. This place has like.. nothing and is too quiet and boring for my tastes, but I love how my town has a pretty low crime rate, at the very least.

I've gotten drunk in that town once and have spent several other days down there before.
