Quick question about Chrono Trigger *spoilers*

Did the people of the Zeal Kingdom get their abilities from Lavos' energy and the Mammon Machine or from somewhere else? Or was it never explained? I feel like they did get it from Lavos' and the Mammon Machine, but it's slipped my mind somehow and I just now thought about it.

From what I remember, it was the Sun Stone. But don't quote me on that.

EDIT: Just remembered something, after the people of Zeal (Zealots if you may) discovered Lavos, they stopped using the Sun Stone as their primary power source and instead used Lavos' power through use of the Mammon Machine.

Ahh...That was it. But I mean, is that how they got their magic abilities, through the Sun Stone? I know that's their power source but does that mean it was how they got the ability to perform magic?

I can kinda see a Heaven and Hell theme working here, too. Basically, they used to use the Sun Stone (keep in mind, older religions worshiped the sun), which gave them great gifts. Then an evil power appeared (Lavos being a devil like creature if you will) and offered them "greater" power, they went for it, it was nice for a while, but it was ultimately their demise. And I'm assuming that the magic you obtain is part of the good side of things, since it was taught to you by Spekkio, who I'd assume is good. And you didn't grow up in that time and don't like Lavos, so...

And I caught on to the Zealot thing you had mentioned, so I was also thinking that they were religion freaks, which gave me the basis for this whole thought.

I'd be really interested to find out if this was actually an idea they had or if it was just a good/evil thing that happened to turn out this way.

That Heaven/Hell analogy makes sense.

Spekkio says something about magic not being invented/created/discovered if you try to get Ayla to learn magic. Does anyone know exactly what he says?

SPEKKIO: All right!
Sweetheart!

Unfortunately, you were born before
magic existed! But you seem to have
other skills that will get you by.

Found it by searching "Chrono Trigger Text Dump" on google

I haven't played the game in years (literally) so I might be wrong, but I'm willing to swear on my mother's soul that it was the Sun Stone that the Zealots got their magical power from.

That's what I assumed too. The magic that Spekkio taught is power from "inside" the caster, like a natural power that Spekkio brought out, thus Zeal's magic is different from Crono and crew's magic. But that doesn't explain how Ayla could not have magic while the others could. Possibly it's either A) We're looking way too deep into this or B) Lavos arriving on Earth had some sort of effect on the creation of magic. Obviously the Sun Stone had some part in the matter, but it is never explained where the Sun Stone came from (at least I don't think it was explained in-game).

It could simply be the fact that she wouldn't understand it, being so primitive. It also could possibly be that she hasn't inherited any magical ability since she was around before magic, and the magic has to be in you, so to speak. It's probably just a latent ability she doesn't have in her due to when she was born.

So, that's why she doesn't have it, but she couldn't be taught it either, since she's well...kinda dumb

EDIT: CT is a game I play practically every year, for about 5 years now (although I didn't last year...the point is, I've played it a lot). Never got past the Twin Golems in my most successful attempt, but this time I'm power-leveling and I have most of the ultimate techs, in the high 40's and I beat them in about 5 consecutive hits. .

Magic entered the world with Lavos. Seems as though the translation may have been lacking there, since the Reptites were supposedly capable of it as well... Fittingly, the ability can't be taught, but you can learn to exploit it.

The sun stones (there was more than one, as they mentioned they could run out of power) were one of several types of gems they exploited to enhance their inherant magical abilities. Later, they used the Mammon machine to exploit the power of Lavos instead.

Semi-unrelated thought here, but I just created Tyrano Castle in the social groups section. Gogogo

In short:

Lavos --> Dreamstone (corrupted) --> Mammon Machine --> Kingdom of Zeal

Planet --> Dreamstone --> "Good" magic
