WATCHMEN

Who's read it? It's great. If you don't own a copy, buy one now. You won't regret it.

Heh, I made a topic similar to this when the Watchmen trailer came out, but no one really knew about it.

It's a pretty great Graphic Novel. The only thing I didn't like was the art style. It grated a bit on my nerves, but it was amazingly deep in its portrayal of an alternate universe.

I haven't read the graphic novel. In fact, I had never even heard of it until I saw that trailer for it during The Dark Knight previews. The movie looks awesome and that Smashing Pumpkins song is perfect with the preview.

Just saw the trailer, and the movie looks great.

But Watchmen is not "great".

It is the greatest graphic novel written thus far. If you have not read Watchmen, and plan on seeing the movie, or aren't planning on it, if you are a human being who is able to read english, you need to go out and buy a copy of Watchmen, right now, and read it immediately. And then probably read it again. It will change your life.

No one in this thread has convinced me to buy this. You people are horrible salesmen.

Considering the fact that superpowers aren't even needed for this story because it almost could have been done without superpowers, that's a terrible point.

Here's the best way to put it. It is basically Incredibles for adults, with a few more elements mixed in.

I am not even kidding. This thing insanely inspired The Incredibles. I can go through and list every single thing that was similar between them. However, it adds more blood, more gore, more political warfare, more social dilemmas and moral issues (Would you kill 6 million people to give billions of others a chance - a chance! to survive?).

Damn, that book can get amazingly hardcore.

I'll go with graphic novel, since we're talking about one, after all. Johnny The Homicidal Maniac.

Funny you should mention it, because my copy just arrived at Barnes & Noble today.

I'll go pick it up on Friday right after I see The Mummy: TOTDE.

I have it on hold. Not sure how long it'll take before it gets to the library, though, since there's a waiting list (other people seem to want it too, but thankfully, it's not as many people as I would've thought).

Imagine yourself sitting in a comfortable chair, eating the most delicious ice cream in the world, reading Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Replace Johnny the Homicidal Maniac with Watchmen, and you're level of happyness will not double, not tripple, it will immeasurably expand and aproach infinite.

I'm not a very good salesman, am I? Seriously though, if your interested in the comics medium at all, Watchmen is the single most influential modern comic. If you don't enjoy the deep plot, complex characters, and deconstruction of what it means to be a guardian, protector, and hero, you will learn from the pacing, construction, and visuals.

Well, that's all just a glorified "HEY LOOK! THIS IS GREAT!" not "HEY LOOK, HERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS WHY THIS IS GREAT!"
