Black Death

This is a thread to commemorate all the people who died during the spread of the Black Death, one of deadliest pandemics in history.

Shield your eyes!

"The total number of deaths worldwide is estimated at 75 million people;[4] approximately 25-50 million of which occurred in Europe.[5][6][7] The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30% to 60% of Europe's population.[8][9][10] It may have reduced the world's population from an estimated 450 million to between 350 and 375 million in 1400.[11]"

Sadly, not enough people respect, or even know who those who died during this catastrophe were. It requires more media attention, for not only did it have more deaths than nearly any other event in history, it was also a true pandemic. Not like this AIDS crap.

This one's for you, Tanjo.

The black death was certainly a tragedy... good thing it's way over.

But I wouldn't be so cruel to people infected with AIDS. Most of them suffer horribly.

And your logic comes from where? Bedtime stories or video games?

There is a difference between a recent tragedy and a tragedy such as the Black Death.

Oh okay Avarice, I guess since 50 MILLION PEOPLE DIED a few centuries ago they're less important than some buisnessmen from seven years ago.

16 666 times more important than September 11th. I did the maths with my learnings.

It's not the importance or even the number of the people- it's the fact that they died of an unfortunate natural cause, and not some crazed nutjobs purposely trying to harm their fellow humans.

I agree with you, Avarice.

At the same time, they're both tragedies.

Most of the people in 9/11 died quick deaths. Be it meeting the pavement or dying in 5 minutes from inhailing smoke. With the Black Death FIFTY MILLION PEOPLE died horrible deaths by means of painful sores and boils on their skin, living in constant agony until their families had to "bring out their dead". The Black Death is far > September 11th.

I agree with Tanjo, I mean both were horrible in their own ways.
Also Tanjo gets a cookie for his Monty Python qoute.

How about debating my actual comment instead of dodging my point with a quote from an awesome movie?

I'll humor you though. Those suffering from the Black Death could have easily ended their lives rather quickly. I'm sure they had a knife or sharp object around the house somewhere.

They were probably too weak and sore from the BLACK DEATH to reach for one.

There, I just spammed 80% of the AAG threads.
