....normally it would mean crushing and laughing at the virus. But, er, I've run into a couple leeeeetle problems.

I got AVG Free a bit ago. That's cool. But McAfee seems to like glitching it up. The list of tracking cookies now stretches so far, I can't hit any of the buttons. And Karna.dat keeps trying to download porn.

First of all uninstall one of your antivirus programs. It's fine to have a number of anti-spyware programs. Not antivirus. They will conflict and cause problems.

Secondly, do a google search for details on the virus removal tips are usually easy to find. That's the best I can do with the information of 'Help I have a virus'.

Usually norton and other programs tell you the location these assholes are hiding, so just search and destroy them.

I'd like to say that Avast! Home Edition is an incredible anti-virus, and is free (for 60 days) to use. Scanned my entire machine (about 70-some gigs of data) in a few hours. That include all critical system files and such.

I'd just like to add that if you register (also free) you can get Avast! Home Edition free for a year. After that you have to renew your details (also free) to get it for another year. I.e. it is free forever as long as you renew/re-register once a year

I would get the trial for Avast! But, I don't want to go through the trouble of getting AVG 8.0 on my computer back. =/

If all else fails, reset to factory config

stop downloading crap and this wont happen. But since you did , get all the info you can on the virus and follow the recommended procedure for removing it properly. If you do it wrong you can make things much worse. if nothing else works reset to factory config or format and reinstall.
