I turned on Majora's Mask (N64, no Emu) and All my files were ERASED, plus, when the player usually regains control, LINK DIES. After you ACTUALLY regain control, all my items are ocarinas. :<
Also: HE HAS NO SWORD OR SHIELD WHAT

If you're using an emulator, the file may be corrupt or computer could just be really really laggy. If you're using a Nintendo 64 then your cartridge is brokededed.

You could be spamming, you never know. But I doubt you are.

That's actually happened to me before. Even my masks were Ocarinas.

I just blew on my cartridge and tried again.

Have you ever used a gameshark on the cartridge? Both N64 Zelda games have a nasty habit of permanently changing variables after being used with one.

You might need to reset the internal memory by removing the battery; not an easy task.

Turn the power off, wiggle the cartridge around a little bit, then turn it back on.
