King's Quest, anyone?
Last night I finally got King's Quest VI to work on my computer. I had the biggest nostalgia trip ever. This game is still one of my favorite games ever. It's old, but timeless. I think I attach more childhood memories to this game than almost any other game I own.
For those of you unfamiliar, King's Quest is an adventure series from the 80's-early 90's. The earliest were text adventures, and then they later became point and click games. It was one of the very first successful adventure game series of all time. It was also the most popular of a number of adventure series by Sierra, although I'm rather unfamiliar with those. I've played and seen many of the games in the series, but I only own VI and VII. VII was alright, but VI was incredible. The quality of that game was beyond most adventure games at the time. It's considered one of the best point and click games ever by many people, and the pinnacle of the franchise. Gamespot even put it on their Greatest Games of All Time list. Who else has played this classic series?

I've watched a lot of scenes from the other games, and I've played a tiny bit of 5. I also am pretty sure I played the original, since my grandpa owned it. I really don't remember it at all if I did.
King's Quest VI remains my favorite for so many reasons. The point and click interface was great, and it made it possible to goof off all the time. I loved all the funny comments you would get from the narrator when Alexander would try to do something ridiculous. Really, there were only two things I really didn't like about the game. For one, I hated the fact that you needed the Guidebook to solve some of the puzzles, like the Cliffs of Logic and the Catacombs. I lost my guidebook and had to look on the internet forever fof the solutions, copy them down, and keep the paper in the disk case so I wouldn't lose it. The other thing I didn't like was that there were times where if you missed something important and didn't save beforehand or saved after the chance to get it, you were screwed over completely. For instance, you had to get this invisible ink by walking back to the village at some point to get past the gnomes on the Isle of Wonder. If you forgot to get it and had no save files before that part, too bad. Besides those things, this game is amazing. The game is kinda special to me too. Not only was it the first adventure game I ever played, it was also the first game i ever beat (it took me a long time). I got the shorter ending and also the longer ending with the Underworld and everything. I've played this game so many times it's scary. King's Quest VII was also excellent, but not quite as good as VI. I was disappointed by the fact that the cursor was more simple, so the amount of interactivity was lessened greatly. Because of that, the game wasn't nearly as funny. I did like the way the game looked like a Disney movie. It looked so much like one, in fact, that the evil witch looked freakishly like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. I really liked that little song at the beginning that Rosella sings, "Land Beyond Dreams". It was somehow cheesy and pretty at the same time. So, even though VII was a bit more cutesy and childish than a lot of the others, it was still good. VI is by far the best, though. I really wish there were more games these days that are as charming and well-written as this wonderful series. Truly timeless games.

seven and eight were okay but six and earlier were great. King's quest six is a great game but my favourite adventure game will always be that other sierra game light house which is a wonderful game. The police quest and space quest games were also great and don't forget about other classics like mickey's space adventure, the quest for glory series, and trolls tale which are all great sierra adventure game. Lucas Arts is another notable adventure game creator but I wasn't really into their adventure games. Humongous is the only company that has made adventure games close to the same quality as sierra with their fun kiddy series pajama sam. It's very kiddy but it's still a lot of fun to be the best in the series pajama sam: There's no need to hide when it's dark inside. The only problem is my copy likes to crash right near the end of the game. Light house also is notable for it's crashes. The beggining part seems to be the only stable part of the game. The other parts seem to crash randomly but it's always around those same areas. I have played the game so much that I know the areas where the game is most likely to crash and where it's least likely to crash. I researched and apparently I'm not the only one who notices the stability problems of the game.
