This......just....ugh.

I love the idea of The Beatles: Rock Band, and, while with that and Lego Rock Band, that still doesnt equal 1/4 of the amount of GH games that come out in a year, I still can't find any way to really like this idea.

I suppose if Lego Rock Band follows Harmonix already strict business plan of cross-compatible songs and DLC, then you could view Lego Rock Band as more of a child-friendly expansion pack. Assuming, as Harmonix has always done, that the songs in Lego Rock Band will be exportable to be played in Rock Band 2, and all RB2 dlc is compatable with LRB, then it is essentially the same game just with a child-friendly song list.

I hate that it used the Lego brand, but then again, it is an easy way to catch the eyes of kids. I will rent it, no doubt, but I'll only buy it if it's songs are exportable, which I have no doubt that they will be, then it's easy to overlook the lego art and think of it as another of Harmonix' awesome expansion packs.

Lego Star Wars was fun. Now they're just milking it.

Oh my God. I think I'm falling in love. My heart has skipped a beat and now I'm walking on air in pure, unadulterated bliss.

On another note, what the **** is this?

I see. The fans of Europe now have to buy a game aimed at kids to play one of their best songs. Thanks Harmonix, thanks a bunch.

Save me retyping.

Quote:
After months of rumour and speculation Lego Rock Band has been confirmed. If there was one thing I thought those angular toys wouldn’t be able to turn their hand it would be the world of rawk but here they are strumming away on their pieced together instruments.

My first reaction was that this was a shocking cash in, a step down the Guitar Hero route that signalled the end of the franchise’s moral high ground. All they’ve done up until this point has seemingly put the fans first but was the temptation of the Lego cheque book too great? Maybe not, as on closer inspection it appears they are just reaching for a younger market. “Lego Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humour of the Lego videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favourites suitable for younger audiences” claims the press release.

If this is true then it could be a master stroke by Harmonix. The Rock Band and Guitar Hero brands are both well known in the medium but from personal experience they can also be quite daunting. Whether it be the image they exude, the pricing or the perceived target age range, some are put off from grabbing a plastic guitar and strumming along. Over the last few years, though, Lego videogames have built up a reputation of being accessible and welcoming which could be exactly what is needed to bridge the gap. I’m not saying that everyone who bought Lego Indy is going to drop over a hundred pounds to join in but I can see more than a few of those currently on the fence finally deciding to do so.

My biggest disappointment, however, is the track listing. When the title initially surfaced I had visions of a playlist featuring Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, The Judd’s Love Can Build a Bridge and anything from New Kids on the Block. What a missed opportunity.

Feel free to leave your own Lego based song suggestions.

The more i've thought about it, the more i've become ok with this. I dont like it, but I think I understand that it's not "for" us. It's for kids, and, while i'll be disappointed if it's track list isn't exportable like everything else in the Rock Band franchise, I also will understand if they want this game independent from the rest.

It's untapped potential, a kid-friendly version of these games is something the whores at Activision haven't even thought of yet, and I think it could actually be a big hit.

EDIT : http://kotaku.com/5223206/new-lego-r...-robot-battles

Some more information regarding the game, it seems like it might be going in a completely different direction.

I cannot wait for the day music games are done with, they have just gone too far and they are all the exact same thing over and over.

I agree yet disagree with ksimp. Music games are here to stay, and i'm ok with that. Do you see a band come out with a CD and say "Oh God, I can't wait till music is done." Or, "Jeez, I can't wait until they stop making movies"

Music games are a valid genre, and they are alot of fun, and, while they have been exploited by Activision lately, I feel Harmonix' strategy of one game, with tons of content, is something that can keep the genre going.

This one is a bit outlandish, but the more you think about it, the more sense it makes from a business point to aim one of these games at children.

Sorry I should have been more specific, Harmonix I think do a much better job at making these games and I actually don't mind if they stay around, because they put a lot of effort into Rock Band and keep fans happy with plenty of DLC. LEGO Rock Band might be a little stupid for me, but at least they haven't gone as bad as Activision and completely milk every cent out of the Guitar Hero franchise like they have done and will keep doing for probably a long time.

Yeah, I agree with that. Lego Rock Band is stupid to me, I dont like it, but I do understand the direction they may be trying to take with it. I know some families that dont allow rock band/guitar hero because some of the songs are "bad". This is the type of rock band game for that kind of family.

I'd feel more sympathetic towards the FPS cow. Think how many of that genre come out each year compared to music/rhythm games and I think here quality of "milk" is far inferior by comparison.
