It's coming.....

I noticed that the xbox forum was a little light on the activity lately, so I decided I'd bring some discussive heat back to the place with a teaser for what will be the single most underwhelming game of the century !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJA8w5agPCA

Enter, Jesh Vs. America Bear !

Discuss the greatest fight of the century, coming eventually to xbox, from yours truly.

CAUTION - Foul language present, be advised if parentals don't enjoy that sort of thing.

It looks like it'll be the most epic games since Virtual Fat Guy Sitting on a Bench!

Ok, so to explain a little bit, the game I've been tinkering on got put on hiatus when my other programmer became too busy for the project, since then I've been honing my own skills in an attempt to stop the awesome character, Jesh, from dropping to the cutting room floor.

Right from the beginning, before I knew what kind of game it would eventually be, I wanted Jesh's nemesis to be America Bear, mainly just because the name America Bear is really bad ass. It started as a really basic platforming tech demo, with a really shitty Jesh that I made completely out of photoshop shapes. (My wacom tablet broke, so to this day, the current build of the game is made completely out of photoshop shapes, which is mostly why I don't want to actually show in game footage because it looks AWFUL.)

It ended up becoming a sort of platformer/brawler like the early ninja turtles arcade games, and as I went on, I toyed around with other concept ideas, making little mini-games that featured Jesh as a character, I started to get into the idea that maybe this is what the game would be in the end, a sidescroller broken up by obscure mini-games in the middle. I figured I could just have America Bear show up at the end in his own mini-game.

So, when designing the mini-game in which you fight America Bear, I decided to attempt a Punch-Out clone, except instead of behind your boxer, you see them side to side, like in any normal fighting game. It worked well enough, wasn't anything great, but when I tried it out and just found how hysterical it was to see these two overly large, ridiculous looking characters boxing each other, I finally knew what the game would be in the end.

I took that code and basically started a new project from scratch based on it, attempting to not just make a "functional" arcade boxer, but to make it fun in itself, less a distraction and more a main feature. I've still got a ways to go, but now that I have an actual concept to follow, I'm finally making progress.

The best way to describe the game is very similar to punch-out, you work your way through a series of obscure challengers working your way up to America Bear, each challenger has a set of moves, each move has to be dodged or parried a certain way, and no two fighters are beaten the same, I've got a long way to go before everything is working tight, and balanced out, and the art has a long way to go, I'm going to have to save up for a new wacom tablet, but I'm going to leave it all as ugly shapes until the game itself is 100% finished.

Oh, and if I manage to keep it under the file size limit, It will be selling for 2 dollars on xbox live community games, and yes, the voice clips in the teaser are in-game dialogue.

2 Dollars? I can't wait to see what this will turn into. I also hope I get an X-Box 360 soon so I can get it upon it's release.

Welcome back America Bear.
Even if you are in a slightly different form than expected.

America Bear is going to kick your ass up and down the ring Skine. In his current state, I can't really beat him, I'm thinking, instead of toning him down, just leaving it like that, and seeing if anyone else ever manages to topple the beast.

Pretty big words considering you haven't seen the game yet, just it's teaser.

Also, in the end, with a 2 dollar price tag and a focus on bizarre humor, are any of you REALLY going to take this game seriously ?

Except for the America Bear part, take him VERY seriously, he's going to rape your parents.

Oh, and it's worth restating for those that didn't read my giant post describing the game, those quotes in the teaser are in game dialouge, seeing Jesh get wailed on and then scream "Shit me in the ass !" Is probably one of the funniest things ever. Some other good lines are "I'm not a man !" or "Why did God kill my father ?"

No sir, I did that in about 15 minutes using the basic features of iMovie, it wasn't intended to be a fabulous teaser, I just felt like making a quick teaser so I did it. If you think that's bad, wait till you see the art I'm using on the current sprite sheets, as stated in an earlier post, without a wacom tablet, i've built my sprites completely out of photoshop shapes.

When I get a new tablet, I'm going to go back over every frame in each spritesheet and hand draw everyone of them, it'll look alot better.

Why not just charge $2.50 and make it an even 200 points? Tbh I rather spend 200 points than 160 because 160 leaves me with a jacked total.
