Chapter 1

Clouds were rolling peacefully overhead. The radiant sun beams burning down on the field. The perfect time to do archery! Well that is if you like it. Arrows were whizzing across the grass to the targets at 30 foot. Everyone was just finishing there final shots before tea break, mainly getting gold. As always Jake was the last to finish, hitting white as his arrow flicked to the side, along with his arm. He was always the weak link! Never hitting anything! After finally finishing his shots, he slunk over to the bow rack and laid his bow gently, being careful not to break anything. The whistle went and he sped to the arrows, waiting for his instructor and the score sheet. He slowly repeated his scores in imperial as he was going along.
“Three, three, one” he exclaimed.
“That would be okay except we are scoring in metric” his instructor proclaimed in a spiteful voice.
“Oh sorry about that” Jake apologized “four, three, one” He continued ignoring the look in the instructors eyes.
He walk back silently, as the tea cart was rolled out of a horrid looking shed. He grabbed his tea and proceeded to sit in the shade. He looked around watching everyone. They all seemed to fit in well but only because they were misfits in everything else! To be fair in this club Jake WAS the misfit and the failure. That was nothing new! He failed at everything he did! His school work was rubbish; he couldn’t play sport, nothing! There was nothing! Everyone one has a skill he was told but, he had no idea what his was. He examined everyone looking at how they were isolated. The most noticeable one was the man without a hand. He used a clip on clamp to hold his tea. He used a special hook for archery to keep the bow in place. Though he had this disability, he was an extremely good archer. Then there was the only instructor he knew the name of, James! He was extremely fat and made it clear that everyone would know his name. In fact he was so fat that each time he shot an arrow his blubber bounced. Though Jake was embarrassed to admit it, the only person still making him go was also one of them! This wouldn’t be so bad, except that it was his dad. He had the oddest tastes but the worst think was his hair! He had dreadlocks! They weren’t even the nice looking sort! They were baggy and untidy, stretch down the back of his face. He also wasn’t religious, meaning it wasn’t for religious purposes! Jake buried his face trying to forget about it and waited for the lesson to end.
The lesson was drawing to a close, the sky getting cloudy. He was ready to go when James stepped forward. He started talking.
“Now, everyone pay attention! We will not be here next week! We will be in forest ongelma, on the edge of town. We will be doing survival training next week! You will be practising survival training! No questions just come!” Explained James abruptly.
“Should be fun” James dad whispered.
James just frowned.
