Fast zombies vs. Slow zombies

The L4D thread inspired this. Which do you prefer and why?

I prefer slow zombies. While I'm down for them shuffling slightly faster when they're excited, or limping faster than they shamble, I don't think zombies should be marathon runners. At all. Because when they are, they cease to become zombies. The scariness of zombies are their ability to work in numbers. A single zombie can't do much, but a massive group of zombies cornering you will totally screw you over. With fast zombies, one zombie can kill you and you're dead. Done. I just find slow zombies scarier.

Slow. Zombies aren't supposed to be fast. They don't have a mind, so things would register really slowly, if at all, so they can't really run. I'd prefer slow zombies either way. Less chance of getting murdered.

Plus...you know, the whole rotting muscle tissue and lack of co-ordination would probably retard their movement a bit.

Zombies are slow. The infected are fast. These are often confused because the infected are the new school zombies.

Fast zombies cease to be zombies, they are just monsters. Romero zombies (slow, braindead, most dangerous in group) are the quintessential zombie form. Night of the Living Dead (obviously), Dead Rising, Resident Evil etc. all use the classic Romero zombie to great effect.

Well obviously it'll vary by definition. We're not proposing legislation or anything though, we're just talking.

Slow zombies are the classic kind. I don't think I've seen a fast zombie, anyway.

I don't see how a slow zombie would be scary. Considering the living would be able to run, and the zombies are just limping along, taking their sweet time, unless you're astronomically retarded, you'll get away by default. Even in large numbers, it won't do them any good if they can't even keep up with you. Just hop in a car, and you'll be safe forever.
