Hypothetical Mario Plots?

At some point, everybody has mocked the Mario series for recycling the same outdated plot over and over again in most of its games. What sort of plots would you put in a Mario game if you had the chance? Personally, I'd like a game where the secret mastermind is the first Goomba from Level 1-1, who never got over his shame at being stomped and has spent all these years training to become unbeatable.

Any story when Wart comes back. Either Mario has another nap, or Wart is actually real or he comes out the dream world and becomes real. I know that IS reusing a older plot, but it isn't the obvious one to reuse.

So Luigi is chilling out in the place he built at the end of Luigi's mansion. He gets a call from his sister in law that Mario hasn't been back to the castle in forever so Luigi goes out and looks for him. After a while of searching, he comes to find out that Mario has been captured by Bowser and Bowser is now preparing to storm Mushroom Kingdom and take over. Luigi [the player] has a choice to either go and pre-save Peach or now-save Mario. Leaving Mario in prison will result in Luigi going incognito (his brother is the gung-ho kill everything kind of guy while he's more stealthy) to Mushroom Kingdom and getting Peach's help in saving Mario. This branch of the game would be a bit more stealth based. Saving Mario would result in Bowser taking over and The Mario Brothers going in guns blazing (not literally) and save the kingdom in a full-frontal assault.
