God of War III Demo........

is apparently out right now! Well for the US and Europe it is anyway! I live in Australia and it still hasn't appeared on the PSN yet for us

Anyways, go try it out and tell me what you think of it. lol I keep checking every half an hour for it, it has to pop up soon for us, so in the meantime, I'm gonna try out the Darksiders demo that was also just released.

Tanjo sure won't like that I say this, but NOTHING about that Demo reassured me that there should even be a third game. It was fun, it had great graphics, and it had tight controls, But absolutely nothing about the game made me feel like I should buy this when I can already play the first two games.

Granted, tons of sequels play it pretty close to earlier games in the series, but most sequels at least add new mechanics into the game to expand upon the successful structure of the first game. Assassin's Creed 2 was a fantastic sequel that took what worked and expanded upon it in new ways.

GOW3, judging from the demo alone, did nothing new. You ran around fighting hordes of weak enemies, you tear them in half, and then you fight a bigger guy who you kill by using context sensitive buttons as they appear over the enemy. The game looks better, but it was still a super linear romp from point A to B, and from what I could tell, there weren't any new twists or mechanics added to enhance the formula.

It works, I get it, I'm gonna play it because it was pretty fun, but even the environments look exactly like areas from earlier games, it just seems like God of War HD, and it really seems like it was only made to make money. I just expected more than just a rehash of previous games.

Actually no, I don't mind. I noticed the same thing. But that's something I like about the series; I'm more interested in the plot/enviroments/art/music than the gameplay when it comes to GoW because the formula is satisfactory to me, and when you throw in new things around that formula as opposed to changing it, it provides the same ammount of satisfaction (for me) as changes in gameplay dynamics do for you.

They intentionally made the gameplay the same because they didn't want to make GoW3 stand out compared to the others, they wanted it to feel like one big trilogy. The thing is, you can't fight a titan on the PS3. So there's differences like that which make GoW3 worth it.

One thing I'd like to see (since they're wrapping up this story arc with GoW3) is a FPS set in modern times involving the leftovers from the era of God of War, after the Titans & Gods had their nipples ripped out by Kratos. Maybe a newly discovered temple or something. Kind of like the "Fate of the Titan" bonus feature in God of War.

I don't mind consistency, and the game was enjoyable, so it looks like we agree on that aspect. I just wish there was some sort of new aspect to the game that made it feel like the third iteration of a series, not the third remake of one game.

It's fun though, so I'm still looking forward to it.

I have no PS3, so I'll probably just get Dante's Inferno.

For god sake, the demo is still not released in Australia. Aussies like to rip Helio's head from his body too you know.

Can't you just get the God of War Collection Pack (which comes with the demo), or does Australia not have that either?

My friend has it, and I've seen the demo twice (he's played it countless times); it looks extremely badass, and makes me wish I had a PS3.

Hahah, wait- what? Australia actually has God of War? DOHOHOHO YOU WACKY AUSSIES.

The sole reason I bought my PS3 was for GoW3. Wound up enjoying it for a lot of reasons.

I love the ability to grab an enemy and run with it like a shield. Anyway though I'm not worried about it getting stale, I love the first 2 God of War games, and it looks like in the third there will be enough abilities and weapons to keep the combat feeling fresh.
