Mass Effect coming to the Big Screen

Yeaaaah. Legendary Pictures has been given the movie rights to create a Mass Effect movie.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Mass-...e-142885.shtml

What do you guys think? I'm glad they're looking at popular, great games as movie potential, though I don't think they can handle something as big as Mass Effect.

You can't really choose what you want the character to do while you're watching the movie, I worry it'll hurt the franchise. =/

So I'm both excited, and tremendously worried.

I really don't know how that would work.... to begin with, most video game movies aren't very good (though I personally loved the Super Mario Bros. movie, even if it was nothing to its source material), and then I wonder how they'd even be able to pull off a movie based on Mass Effect... I've only played the demo here and there, but it seems like there's quite a bit to take from, so what do they pick to actually go into the movie?

I honestly don't understand how this works, because one of the biggest appeals of Mass Effect is the choices and being able to personalize Shepard. Like, I could see a Halo movie or something like that, but a Mass Effect movie seems like it's an oxymoron.

My Mexican Shepard is so cool he should be on the front of the box, dangit.

Kameo would of been a better choice

Hell, the soundtrack was better fitted for a movie then a game

Most big video games get movie adaptations announced. There's about a 1/10 chance that movie will actually be produced any time within 10 years post-announcement.

This had me interested for the first 30 seconds, but then I realized that they plan to make a movie of a game with multiple story altering decisions in it. How in the flying f*** is it going to work?

Easy, they'll disregard that because it doesn't fit the medium of movies as it does video games, and they'll create one central story with subplots like they do in every movie. Simple, right?

This. I'm still waiting for God of War, Gears of War, Halo, and Bioshock. And probably others I've long since forgotten.

Don't worry RWP, when Tanjo becomes a famous movie director he'll write a nice Banjo-Kazooie movie for you. It'll have robots n' shit. Good stuff.

Castlevania. Seriously, it seems as if the plans for that movie just fell off the face of the earth.

Whenever they plan on making videogame movies based on games from these high-def systems, I say you should just use the graphics to animate the movie instead of actors. Like FF VII Advent Children. If it wasn't animated, I probably wouldn't have liked it as much.
