Red Steel 2 Sold Terribly

Quote:
VandenBerghe talked at length about the underlying problems behind Red Steel 2's lacklustre sales figures – the game only managed 270,000 worldwide, he claimed. As well as the restrictions of being single-platform and requiring a peripheral, he thinks it has a lot to do with players themselves. “I isolated this factor called audience willingness. There is a small group of people that is willing to get up and move and exert themselves for fun ... We had to ask ourselves: how many gamers are willing to move? I don't know how many there are, but it's no higher than 20 per cent. That's actually probably optimistic.”
It certainly couldn't be the fact that Red Steel 1 was so terrible that it created a bad reputation for Red Steel 2.

It's definitely the fact that the first one is a horrible game.

I personally didn't look at it related to the first game at all, and I also didn't buy it but wanted to.

So I'm pretty much the type of person that failed them and now I feel bad.

It wasn't a joke... or did I miss something? It may also have to do with the fact that only hardcore gamers would buy this game, and it was hyped up a bit, but it didn't fare amazingly in reviews and it's a short single player-only game.

@Danny: What do you mean when you say "games like this"?

Good. A mediocre game deserves mediocre sales.

What the hell? D:

I actually really enjoyed the first game. Sure, the sword fighting only relied on timing and it wasn't as "free" as I had hoped, but it really felt like one of those arcade shooters where you advance from level to level by using cover and such. I never had the money, so I passed on the second one.

Don't know why you guys dislike it so much. It was pretty enjoyable for a Wii game. No More Heroes was vastly superior though.

The game felt as if it was trying too hard, the characters were not memorable, the surroundings weren't lively, the story wasn't special, everything was cliche as crap, and the only non-meh thing was the fighting. I didn't expect much from this game, but it really underwhelmed.

Not a mediocre game. A mediocre game would have run of the mill everything. The gameplay wasn't very run of the mill, and neither was the setting.

No, the hack 'n slash aspect is common in many hack 'n slash games, it's just not usually used in first person perspective. Every other aspect of the gameplay is a common place in the fps genre. I'll give you the setting, even though east meets west is an actual genre. Everything else is also pretty common, such as the revenge plot we see all of the time. So yeah, other than the setting, (which was boring anyways,) the game is mediocre, though average is probably a better way to describe it.

I actually enjoyed it as well. The dialogue and characters were annoying, but I thought it was fun.
