Judging by the 3 suggestions, I'm going to guess you're between 12-14 years of age.
You'll get through it, champ!

being nominated for an award = no jokes allowed
yeah okay Besides that, I wouldn't know where to start. All of those artists are in the same, bland genre - so I don't know what to suggest. He needs to find a tangent to go on that. So it doesn't mean just going for all the mainstream bands. I could link to a good song of a lot of genres, I guess. Oh be quiet, stop implying that I hate bands because they're mainstream. It was a joke.

Alright OP, here we go. I'm going to post a bunch of genres and I want you to tell me which you like.
Black Metal: Black metal is dark, heavy and fast. Often extremely cold sounding and negative, sometimes satanic if you're into that kind of thing. Don't worry though, not every black metal band is truly satanic - just a handful are. They tend to be very raw and down to earth in terms of how their music sounds. Black metal is also very theatrical, making very good live shows. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ygIznLxgC0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrOfvhFiq6E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iajWAHpuF6s (part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3nam8CGu0Q) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka3YQdNhRbk Death Metal: Death metal often concerns brutal, deep and fast passages. It's like black metal, but it's very distinguishable. I'm not very well versed on death metal, since it really isn't my favorite - if you like this one, then I recommend going to Encyclopedia Metallum and posting a thread there in the recommendations forum with the bands you've heard. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07B42TVgmyQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BldIRY3dlY0 Doom Metal: This genre is a lot slower but still inhabits the negativity of black metal. It tends to have a tinge of beauty between all the sounds, and the bands tend to be very poetic. The tempos are slow, the guitars are tuned deep and the genre as a whole is wonderfully mournful and dark. One of my favorite genres. You need a lot of patience for doom metal, though. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQJUUDsfRek (This version of the song is shortened down a lot. The full version is better.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa9LHyf_d_A (from my favorite album ever) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBqxN_tyC80 Power Metal: Metal about epic battles with dragons. There isn't really a more accessible genre out there. it's fast, the guitars are played fast with solos all over the place, and is often cheesy as hell - which is good if you like that kind of thing. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b5TOWKsjmg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTtOkPnzPUQ Again, not too well versed. I recommend finding StarFox for some good power metal, he knows his shit. Folk/Viking Metal: Kind of similar to power metal but the music is a lot more powerful and normally sings about paganism and viking times rather than fantasy and dragons. Some bands incorporate real folk instruments into the mix, which makes it sound a lot better than power metal to me. Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALrjjJdmxgA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5pdql5rspw <<< my favorite band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ddQ2cmtCFM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbcwOHvoZbA I'll post more later, but there's 5 tangents to start with. Tell me which ones you like and dislike and I'll help you delve further into the ones you like.

As I said, I gave him 5 tangents. You may also give him tangents if you wish. I'm just encouraging him to break away from the mainstream.

Daaah okay.
Progressive Metal It's a branch of heavy metal that's usually characterized by odd time signatures, often heavily influenced from classical and symphonic music, and utilizing sounds from an array of genres, like folk, early progressive rock. It is also usually in the form of concept albums, they basically have a story, or a similar theme that relates to the other songs. It also usually features a lot of synth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtAhlPcdh9c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttliW5dHizQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quH_vUCdy2o And early progressive rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wloNpMLlU58 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0EnOrBq8PI Symphonic Metal Usually in a similar vain as power metal, but it's got a heavily utilized orchestra. Again, heavily influenced by classical music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY-EOYJQMMY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYSvdmOajzY Also some sweet Power Metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7TVr_2btPg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ4EsWYF9w8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VfXoQCCizA&feature=fvst And plenty more. :3
