A serious thought...

I know that I don't post that much at all and I hardly ever start any threads, but earlier today I was thinking about something that has bugged me for about two years now. The reason that I am starting a thread about it is that I am curious to know what you all think.

Anyway

Ever since I was about five years old, I always thought of going into the military. I don't know why, It's just gone down through my family and I just feel like I should do it. The problem started a little while ago when someone I cared about told me that if I did it, they wouldn't be here when I came back, if I did at all. Their reasoning behind it was that they refused to go for about a year not knowing if I was okay or not. Another thing that they said was that I would not last in the military for very long. well, my dad has been in the military for a long time and he treats me like I already am in it. there would just be a few new things that I would have to get used to. Now, I understand all of their thoughts, but I keep thinking shouldn't they still support me in my decision and not leave if I did it? Shouldn't they not hurt me even more by whatever decision I make?

Then today, I was thinking about it again, and it just keeps bugging me. I don't know if I am being stupid about this or not, it's just something that has been on my mind a lot lately.

I guess what I am trying to ask of anyone who reads this is one of 2 things:

1.) What do you think on my position or
2.) What would you do??

While I understand your wish for them to support you in your decision, put yourself in their shoes. That long a time without knowing if someone you love is alright.

It's just as unfair on them as this is on you. However, it is your life, and you should be able to do whatever you want. I only suggest you take into account their position.

There very rarely is an easy way, and even when there is, I don't recommend taking it. The harder things are, the more you learn at the end of it.

War will never be gone. There's nothing wrong with being realistic about it.

The only thing people should be concerned with is how best to protect their loved ones and their country when War comes to them.
