This just in: 3D sound is a lot cooler than 3D vision.
Hopefully this takes of pretty soon. Imagine theaters being constructed and modified for 3D sound? This is the next step people.

If heard of something like that before. It's pretty neat.

I thought something like this was already possible since long ago with stereo headphones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IXm6SuUigI I guess it's not used much due to laziness.
Maybe this more perfect, 3d +3d sound seems like a nice combo to me. |

Teehee, maybe we'll need to use special 3D headphones. ;D
All in all, it seems... weird. I'm having trouble grasping how it's different from surround sound.

the way I understand it is it is like you hear a person walk by and it will increase the volume little by little as if the person was virtually there

I think I somewhat understand it. It's like you hear someone walking behind you, but eventually you can hear them walking right in front of you...? So, the volume'll change depending on how distant the sound is from the person?

The first thought was how great this could work for horror movies, if done right. My second thought was that it probably won't be done right.
Regardless, this sounds like an excellent development, and I can't wait to see what happens.

3D sound's been around for quite some time. Good to hear it might get popular.
