Why not to buy a Mac

Friend forwarded this to me

I agree with everything on here. If you are building a new computer and no longer need yours, then you can reuse a bunch of parts... Wow, Apple overpricing crap. Oh, and $35 for earbuds with volume button on it that probably cost $0.10 to make

The prices for a Mac Pro are ridiculously expensive, I once configured one for the luls selecting all the more expensive parts and it came to over 32k. The 24c Gold casing and all.

Sure, the prices for a Mac are expensive but I simply put it down to the entire package, you get alot more then just the parts in an aluminium case. Simply knowing that my macbook wont get PC viruses and I am covered by a warranty that will replace any part of my macbook for free if it ever happens to fail is worth the extra few bucks.

PC's can be expensive too. Just look at Dell and their Alienware line. I have realised that PC people are really aggressive to Mac people. They always like to prove they're right which, some of the time they are. Its my choice to buy a Mac but, not even the craziest of macfans would buy an incomplete computer for 3k.

Also you can't run 3DS Max or Maya on a Mac without it randomly deciding not to save your work or just close the program.

I think that when you buy a Mac, you're just buying the brand name. Macs aren't much better than PCs and vice versa. They have different functions and utilities, but overall, PCs and Macs do the same thing. Different strokes for different folks.

Some people got the Mac OS running on their PC's and I think I heard it runs better. That's really all that it is though... Cheap hardware with a shitty OS (imo). I've got a PowerMac tower. Do I use it ever? NEEEWP

If you think Mac is the only company completely overpricing their product, think again. As if windows doesn't? I would gladly pay double the price of a windows computer any day for a mac. They're just so much better in my opinion. I'm a huge apple fan either way so I'm bias. But I think they're much more user friendly and protected, they have better programs, and their operating system is always a step ahead of windows. So I go with the mac.

You can hack their operating system onto a Windows computer... either way it doesn't matter though. :V

The only reason I have a Mac is for some software.
And I run Windows on my Mac for everything else.

Windows don't make the hardware in their computers, other companies do - so no, Microsoft don't do that when it comes to PC's apart from software (which is easy to pirate anyway).

Explain to me how the operating system is always a step ahead of Windows.

I disagree completely.

When you buy a Mac, you're buying a system where the hardware and software were designed for each other. With PCs, you have so many different hardware vendors (HP, Dell) and then you have Microsoft... and it's all separate.

Apple can move ahead on anything they want because they control the whole package. Can Dell just decide to add EFI? No. So PCs are stuck with the ancient BIOS.

Just one example

People think you're just buying an overpriced brand. The Apple tax only exists because you're buying a complete computing experience, and not some Frankensteined mess*

*Not that I'm bashing PCs. My only point here is that everything is too separate. Who do you go to when you have a problem with your computer? Dell? They say talk to Microsoft. You go to Microsoft, they say talk to Dell. Who has the accountability?

With Apple, if anything goes wrong, it's their fault alone. Apple can't say "go talk to someone else." It's THEIR stuff, 100%.

Also...

All that article proves is not to buy stuff from Apple. I hope you don't think this is a big secret... because most Apple users know this too

Apple absolutely overprices their RAM, displays, etc.

Do NOT buy these things from Apple. I'm a complete Apple fanboy; this isn't some big shock or secret

Buy your Mac from Apple or wherever, and buy everything else from BestBuy. Macs are absolutely PCs, like Gruntling said. This also means PC RAM, mice, keyboards, displays... all that stuff... works with Macs too.

I don't know why people care so much, either. Don't like Apple/Macs? Don't buy

Don't like what you're watching on TV? Change the channel. This isn't hard

Actually, Intel is going to put EFI on future motherboards.

I guess having the hardware and software designed for each other is pretty nice, but I usually prefer more power/lower cost to having my hardware and software designed for each other. I can see why you would enjoy it, though.

Apple do do good things, like that magnetic plug charger thing which doesn't pull the Mac of the table if you have stepped on the wire. They'd probably have more customers if they brought the prices down and didn't rip off, it's like they're taking the piss the way even the ram is three times as much as it needs to be. Is this so it can compete with PCs?
