So, has anyone been to Japan?
I potentially might be this summer. Potentially.
I was thinking of maybe staying in a park, homeless for a week or two to save on expenses, and just... go. How realistic is this? Has anyone been there? Any good ideas? Share your experiences.

Never been there. Only other country besides America I've been to is Mexico, and I was 3 years old so I have no idea what it was like.

Not personal expierience, but my Dad travelled some of Europe and stayed in parks and hostels for the majority. It's certainly do-able. As long as you have enough money to keep you nourished, I'd say go for it.

I don't think sleeping homeless in the open for two weeks is very realistic. From what I know Japan is pretty serious about the purposes, available money, contacts and intended period and location of stay of visiting foreigners; then again for a short touristic stay you might be able to pull it off. I just don't think it's a great idea. At least it sounds like an adventure I'll give you that.

No, but I want to go badly.
I dont think staying in parks would be too advisable though, you might be robbed and Japan can get pretty cold. Or, you could be picked up by the Police and be arrested. Japan has these half-way type places, free internet and manga for a small room. They're small but its best if you use your common sense and research a place, where you are going to go, hotels, ect.

If you don't have too much money for accomadation, you could always stay in a capsule hotel which I believe is fairly cheap. Basically, you get a bed, but for what you're looking for, it's be close to perfect.

But "cheap" in japan means $50 a night in a capsule hotel. Perhaps $30 on a cheap one. Which isn't that cheap considering what you get. Idk if you get discount for long periods of stay though, given that some people rent capsules for a month or so. God is residence expensive in Japan.
