Google Redirect Virus?
Yeah I just picked up this damn thing. ><
Basically, it does what it sounds like it would: takes your google search and directs it to a spam page. Anyone else have this problem, or have gotten rid of it? I'm inquiring on bleepingcomputer now.

I think I got rid of it once through a System Restore to an earlier date.

For whatever reason, my computer keeps saying that nothing is changed regardless of how far back I go with system restore.
I think my System Restore is off though from a previous malware run in. :/

Had this before.
A System Restore got rid of it, although that doesn't seem to be an option in your case... So, I dunno.

Check that your hosts file isn't infected with nasties.. If it is, delete it?

What the hell? Just happened to me today as well. Yeah, a system restore can do the trick, but if that didn't work... derp.

I've actually had this for a while now. Nothing has worked, not even Malwarebytes. I've learned to work around it, though.

When I had a virus on my computer a few months back, I ran in Safe Mode and downloaded Malwarebytes.

Seems like a lot of people on bleepingcomputer's malware/virus section have this same problem. I wish I had turned my System Restore back on. My computer has made checkpoints, but I don't think they're the same as restore points.

My brother's computer had this or something similar. With any luck it'll be the same thing and this will remove it. Scroll down to "Automated Removal Instructions." If that doesn't work the only other thing I can think of is Hitman Pro.
Edit: On second thought you're probably better off running Hitman Pro first since it will at the very least tell you what you have--if not remove it itself. If it does pick up the rootkit let it remove it then run MBAM. Last edited by Pinkcha; 23rd July 2011 at 04:02 AM. |

Funny, I currently have it too and it's really annoying. Almost seems like it's going around like a cold. Still trying to find it, but it's evasive I'll give it that...

My friend has it too. What you need to do to get around it is copypasta where google would normally link you to into the address bar.

That's exactly how I work around it.

Doesn't help me get around my computer's slowness and how just about all of the data on it is probably compromised.
I do online banking on this computer now of course. >< And the damn website I'm asking for help from is currently bogged down with threads of the same issue, and every issues has to be dealt with individually lest you screw up your computer.
