Is there a way to hack the system into accessing the Expansion Pak's 4 MB of RAM even if the game isn't programmed to support it? Or is there a way to expand the internal RAM?
It's probably a long shot, but I figured I'd ask, since improved framerates would be cool.

That actually sounds interesting. Maybe if the expansion pack itself were hard-modded in some way, that could be possible.

Hey, that's actually a pretty cool idea! Don't know if it's possible, though.

The only hack I've ever heard of including an N64 and a framerate boost was someone who inserted some N64 hardware to a GBC and made it run like 6 times faster. Great for Pokemon, apparently.

I'd imagine that N64 games are hardcoded to make use of the Jumper/Expansion pack's RAM (which is the case with practically all consoles, since they're made with limitations). If more were present, the game would have to be rewritten to make use of it. For instance, it is possible to upgrade the RAM in an original Xbox, but only certain debug games will make use of it (since debug consoles typically have more resources than a retail one) and all retail games will ignore it.
Some games have more-or-less hidden expansion pack support, but otherwise a game will not have drastic improvements if the pack is present. So, unless you're making some homebrew games (which could make use of more RAM than the N64's original limits since they'll be coded differently), I'm fairly certain it would be of no use to add some more memory to the N64.

I just wasn't sure if adding more RAM to the system itself (rather than via Expansion Pak) would be read by the games because many games, Rareware classics especially, push the limits of the system's RAM almost to a detrimental extent.
