Thumbs up Wii will finally play with a multitap

Is there any chance of Nintendo releasing a multitap for the Wii? I mean it does play every nintendo game from the Nes up excluding GBA and DS. The SNES had a multitap back in the day so i was wondering if there was any chance of Nintendo reliving the memory in the Wii.

I suppose it's possible if Nintendo has designed their SNES emulator to allow more than two controllers, but I'm not sure if that's likely. They certainly give the impression that they'll be enhancing retro games in some way, but there's really no word on what that will be. I think the possibility updated graphics have been recently denied, though.

...although, we all know that when Nintendo denies something exists, it most certainly does

For example, a week prior to the DS Lite's announcement, Nintendo officially said they had no plans on redesigning the DS. Prior to the announcement that Twilight Princess will have Wii capabilities, Nintendo denied that as well.

They're a silly company

Perhaps some sort of adapter that allows you to plug in old accessories into the GCN controller ports? (Those are still on the system aren't they?)

this could be possible, providing Nintendo doesn't get lazy.

If you're talking about using a different controller to play old games, they will be available to plug into the Wii remote.

He's talking about those peripherals that allowed you to extend the default two-controller setup of the NES and SNES. Like this thing:

Well, since the remotes are wireless, I assume you can add a bunch... and there's gonna be 4 GameCube controller ports, so unless you plan on playing with 5 total people, I don't see the need for a mulitap.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only game that ever used the 5 controllers multi-tap were the Bomberman games after Super Bomberman 2? (I mean, from 3 to 5, they used the multi-tap).

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the 5 controllers multi-tap is copyrighted by Hudson and was only released in Japan. The other multi-taps only allowed 3 players (Secret of Mana anyone?). Just stuff I have read in a magazine somewhere.

I have played Bomberman 4 and 5, (imports hehe) and its 2player battle modes kick arse! 5 players would be a monstrousity of fun for an afternoon. Just that would be a good enough reason to buy a Wii.

Well I have this multitap:

http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repos...ermultitap.jpg

That should allow 5 players, though the most I can have for some of my games is 4.

I've always wanted to get ahold of 2 Saturn multitaps for 10 player Saturn Bomberman though...that'd be something special.

Yeah, so Hudson probably came up with the idea first, then other companies followed. I'm sure that at some time there were only multi adapters made by Hudson.
But...
Whoa! 10 Players?! I have heard that the Bomberman for Sega Saturn was the best Bomberman game ever released, but THAT is definately neat.

EDIT: Just googled this:
Quote:
Hudson makes a SNES adapter called the Super Multitap that allows 4 joypads to be plugged into a controller port, allowing for 5 players. Bullet Proof Software makes the Super Link and Performance makes the Super 5-Play (not endorsed by Nintendo) which do the same. Finally Naki makes the Tribal Tap which supports 5 joypads for a total of 6 players, though no games I know of actually support that many.

I was right

Yeah the one I have is of Hudson build too, like the Bomberman one you can get.

Just not as "square" I suppose heh.

Thing for Saturn Bomberman, apparantly that many players squashes the map on screen and makes it pretty hard to see what's going on.

Yeah, but the thing is, NES and SNES games don't natively support more than two controllers

So whether or not Nintendo will add that support, we'll have to wait and see. My money would be on "no", though
