Day Six: Reminiscence
Today is the day to reflect on our own site and share some memories of why we keep coming back day after day. I'll be trying to get some oldbies back in here to share some of their memories of the RWP's past, but please share yours in this thread! We've been chugging along for over a decade now, and we hope to be here for a decade more. (I just celebrated my eleventh anniversary; I joined back on December 26, 2000!)

I'll start this one off.

Probably my favorite Rare Witch Project memory has to be April Fools' Day 2006. For those who weren't members at the time, I just urge you to go over the Wiki article that I've linked to. The madness and insanity that enveloped the site can't really be explained today. It forever altered April Fools' pranks on the site, just because nobody would trust anything the moderators would say again. The posts of Brokeback Dan provided many lulz, of course.

I remember when the very first screenshots of "Banjo-Threeie" were being leaked. I don't believe the name Nuts & Bolts had been confirmed yet and there was a lot of confusion at the vehicles in the screenshots and the wrench in Kazooie's wing, maybe a bit of sneaking dread and fear, but also a lot of excitement. Before more information about the game came out and people really started to be divided, it was a time of intense speculation. What I remember most is all the jokes we made about the "Mumbo's Nuts" sign being in a screenshot. "I had to smile when I saw Mumbo's Nuts." "Mumbo's Nuts really popped out at me." And so on. Quite funny in a very immature and sort of stupid way. Once the whole vehicle thing was confirmed, the forums polarized into skeptics and people who thought it could work, and once the game came out the fans remained divided. Those very first screenshots were the last time I remember being excited something Banjo-related before everything became tainted with arguing and bitterness, which I won't deny is justified to some extent. It was a time when I at least felt no real reason for doubt or worry yet, and all I saw was something I had anticipated for years finally coming true. Doubtless there was some skepticism right off the bat, but I was too excited to let any bring me down at the time.

I think we can all agree however that making Banjo into a racing game was a huge blunder for Rare.

My fondest memory of this place I reckon was before I even joined. See I floated this site for quite some time before joining, and my favourite memory was the speculation of Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts after the announcement was made. I remember seeing you people discussing the new moves, levels and what not. When the first screenshots were revealed, I enjoyed reading the discussion. I didn't want to join because I was really shy, and didn't want to be made fun of. However, I got N&B and when I saw just how much nuts and bolts blew, I decided to join to be a part of the chaos. Fun times.
I also especially loved learning about milk day.

Back in 2003 when I joined I was an idiot. And I got banned. I remember wither Gold or Grey gave me an avatar that was the grunty's revenge banjo sprite walking. It was fun. Then I was banned for not knowing how to spell, and whatnot.
I also remember when the word "whatnot" was a bannable offense =3

Oh, I'm not even going to comment on whether it was a mistake or not, I don't want to bring that very arguing into this thread. All I'm saying is that I remember a time when I was very excited for the new game, when no one really knew exactly what it was yet, or how very different it was going to be. Like I said, it was really the last little bit of time before you couldn't even bring up Banjo anymore, be it here or on Youtube or anywhere, without someone having to state their opinion on whether Rare made a huge mistake or whether they're just creative people and everyone else is too close-minded. Er... that wasn't pointed at you, like I said, everyone does it.

I remember how when I first made my account, I never actually received the activation e-mail... so I'd lurk for awhile. I think it was a month or two before Whyme saw a comment I had made in the description of a YouTube video of mine about how if anyone from the RWP sees this, can they contact staff and let me in. But thanks to the lurking, I was kind of familiar with who was active- I knew who I liked and who I didn't... and amusingly enough, I didn't like Dragon Bottles because I found him annoying... and his avatar at the time was a really badly done Bottles (probably with wings?) with, if I'm remembering correctly a hideous green and red gradient and I think there were white specs around the Bottles picture... I also remember all the really crappy Stop 'n' Swop theories that BanjoPL decided to post, one after another...

I remember the hype around Nuts & Bolts- even before the soundtrack was ripped, people were taking the trailers and turning the audio into music tracks, or BKPianist trying his hand at recreating Nutty Acres theme based on gameplay trailers. And then I was at school when I saw a thread about the demo being released- was excited all day. I think I had the thread from the then-existing Nuts & Bolts subforum that was a collection of all the screenshots, renders, promotional videos, etc., separated based on level. I checked that all the time.

I remember when I actually had confidence on this site and didn't delete posts shortly after making them, or type up a post but not actually post it.

I remember that thread by 3V1L L33T called "****ING FURRY FURY" about that article where some idiot was gonna let him bite off his penis if he killed his parents.

Yeah... off.

Also I remember that podcast, episode 18 and then remixing audio from it into some crappy song. I got over it in a few days, but people seemed to make worse of it than it really was. The Space Invaders picture was uncalled for though, but I was an idiot. :1

I remember when we had a stop 'n' swop forum, and new users would register and make the most ridiculous theories about some textures on a wall or some crap.
